  1. Hi erpdude8, My bluetooth device is made by SMC and they claimed it will work under win98SE. SMC is not a small company and unlikely they'll buff me. There are some uncertain condidtion that won't allow other drivers to install or drivers won't reconize. Gape mentioned some drivers chk the win98SE krnell and found it uncompatible due to patched. I don know how to work around, so for me the easy way is to uninstall the 20rc1 and try again to see if the drivers can be installed. Thx.
  2. Hi Gape, 1st, wish you do well all in your exam. 2nd, since I don have any solution to fix the little bug(bugs) in the 20rC1. I'm trhinking to uninstall it at the moment. Hopefully rc2 will fix the bug in future. The bug I mentioned at the other post, since SMC didn't reply me when I requested for an instruction for an instruction how to manual install my bluetooth device. I guess they didn't bother to answer as I proberly the only one encountered such problems. Also another driver that I installed, sometimes it cause my PC hang but not sure if cause by 20rc1. Oh yeah..I also encounter a 'blue' screen sometimes. I hit 'esc' or 'enter', sometime win98se will continue and sometime don, sort reset as a result. I didn't noted down thr error no. Also, to me it's unknow cause by what... Just want to know; if I uninstall the 20rc1, what is the chance that I can restore back to origin 98SE? Thx.
  3. Hi Gape, Thx for the reply. SMC tech support did reply but they didn't believe I have the latest build of win98SE. Therefore, I sent them the snap shot and still waiting for their reply. I'm not so in deepth as your guys do... so I couldn't tell what's happened. I did try to install manually but my win98SE refused to install. I'm not sure if these steps were corrected; What I did was plugged in the SMC bluetooth device SMC-BT10 to the PC, instead to install its driver 1st. It prompted and asked for .ini file but I couldn't found any. The strange thing was I could see the .ini files at my office PC and I copied them over to my thumb drive. The moment I plugged the thumb drive in my win98SE PC, it couldn't see any .ini files. Gape, how do I know what SMC try to look for? Above mention, please advise.
  4. Hi soldier1st, Thx for the advise but it's not the solution I'm looking for. I would upgrade to win2k long time ago if I want to. I still prefer using win98SE.
  5. Hi, First all, thank you for those people who contributes much effort to refine the win98SE. Ok, here it one of my strange problem; I couldn't install a SMC bluetool device driver on my 98SE. When I try to install the driver, it just prompted "Please install this software on Windows 98SE or later". I called up the SMC tech support, they just told me that my 98SE is corrupted! I told them that I can install other software(really, I can install other software..) but they just insisted my 98SE is corrupted. Did anyone encounter such problem before? Did I miss something for the installation? I currently run on the SP20RC1. Appreciated your valuable advise. ** I try to enclose the image of the error message, not sure if you can see..
  6. Hi ITman, Thank for the advise. I half regret to jump on the wagon too fast. Before I hit the hammer, I did search for Geil's review but didn't manage to find one months ago. No info about how much impact on AMD's performance. Also I read some forums but didn't see anyone talk about Geil ram. I guess I'm the 1st one.(ya..1st one to lay dead due to improper invest on the ram! ) Now I know Geil ram is being very selective. Not much room to play.(Poor me, spend so much $$ to find out. Well, still ok if I don hope to oc much on my system! Who won't..) The other half is because the $; compare with Corsair, same spec;PC4000. Geil is cheaper as much as 15%.
  7. hi SiMoNsAyS, Thanks for the input. I'll try them out after I reinstall my os.
  8. Hi guys, Thanks for the input. I know some knowledge about pc. Just like to know; I thought AMD 2200 TB FBS is 266? Previously I oc my cpu to 2700, FBS166. Ram set to SPD. Now I bought the New Geil RAM to upgrade the old one. Of course, the best will run on cpu & ram sync to FBS 200. When I reset my CMOS to the default setting, and I installed my os. After the installation, the os failed to boot. As jdeboeck mentioned, the CAS is not correct. The default is 2 7-4-4. I have to set the cpu fbs 166, ram fbs 200 and CAS 2.5 6-3-3. Reinstalled the os and it'll booted successfully. Now i wish to optimize both fbs of cpu & ram. Any idea? ** my uber ver. is 1007. # for big poppa pump; the stated 200 is not workable. Correct one is 166.
  9. Recenly I bought a Geil RAM kit set;PC4000 1G(512m x 2) to upgrade my old RAM Twinmos. Thought that it's easy job to do but it's not. In fact, they gave me hell lot of problem. When I upgrade to 1G, I planed to sync the fbs(both on 200Mhz) of the cpu & ram. I didn't aware that changing the fbs & will corrupt the os. After my os crashed, I installed my win2k again. Little realize that the sync fbs will affect the os setup. It'll prompted the error message that hardwares didn't installed properly or "ntlrd is missing". It's strange that Geil RAM set itself CAS 2 7-4-4, even I cleared CMOS to default. I set both fbs @ 200mhz but the RAM latency couldn't get it right after many attempted. Need advise.... Here is my pc spec; CPU: AMD 2200, TB multiplier: x11 FBS: 200 Bios: uber version Core V : 1.7 ASUS mthbrd: A7N8X-DLX Rev.1.xx Memory : Geil PC4000 1G (512 x 2) Ultra version(old ram is 512mx1 Twinmos) FBS: 200Mhz Latency = 2:4:4:7(strange setting but it's default by the bios) HDD: seagate ATA 100 80G G.graphic card: leadtek A280 TDH LE, Ti4200
  10. Hi MCT & prathapml, I o/c my pc about 1 1/2 yrs ago when I bought it. That time my pc was running 2600 o/c. (CPU is AMD TB 2200) 512m x 1 twinmos ram. Gradually I feel that my pc's resources are being ate up by the applications. Especially playing games I can see the game actually take some time to load and not run smoothly. Therefore, I decided to upgrade the ram to 1G. Then Geil ram was coming to the pic and I bougth an ultra ver. PC400 512 x 2, to make good use of dual channel. The performance shall one great step improve, to all. But due to the FBS is different,(cpu=166, Geil memory=200Mhz)I try to set them @ same FBS. From that onwards, I got a couples of freeze, load 1/2way and didn't succefully load to windows. Last nite, I played the setting again. Couple hours late, one of the cold boot, BANG! I got an error message "ntoskrnl.exe is missing" and it couldn't boot. I just don't understand why setting the hardwares and will corrupt the os.
  11. Hi MCT, Thanks for the reply. I will try that. Did you encounter this problem before when you oc your pc? Just curious... I mean what is the chances that if you tweak the hardwares and they corrupt the os. I thought if tweak the os and chance of corrupt is high.
  12. Hi, 2 days ago, I replaced my new rams inside my pc and did some tweaking on my cpu & ram.(basically oc) Did a couple of cold boot due to freeze.(trial & error, try to sync both fbs) After that, it just suddenly popped an error message " <windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe". The windows won't boot! I just don understand why I change the setting of the hardwares and they affect the os win2k. Does anyone encounter this problem?
