  1. Back in the Win98SE days, I remember some kind of setup manager utility (setupmgr.exe?) which had a page where you could pre-install/configure printers. If memory serves, it added them directly to the SIF/Unattend file. I do not recall seeing anything like this in nLite; only NIC setting. Is there an easy way to pre-install printers with nLite..? Thanks.
  2. Does anyone know of a utility that works with nLite to browse the printer drivers in the Windows XP source, so the 9,999 of them that aren't needed can be axed from the install..? Thanks.
  3. Yes that was my understanding as well.
  4. yea i downloaded the cookie-cutter hfanswer.ini from the web site and just changed the entries i wanted to use, and left it stock otherwise...
  5. i prefer/use cdimage as well... i couldn't find the right version of mkisofs, nor make the versions i did find to work... when i started using cdimage, it worked perfectly the first time, so that's what i stuck with...
  6. Not sure about file damage, but I'll DL it again just in case. Will do. I'm actually glad to hear that. It means there's a problem with my gig somewhere and I just have to figure it out. Yes, after you pointed me to the list on the sticky thread. I found that on my own without the list, I had made my way to almost exactly what I was supposed to have. I carefully checked what I had item-by-item against the list, and there were only a couple of discrepancies which I resolved. I wouldn't ask. You've got better things to do.
  7. When I install my source into vBox and run MU, it's asking me to allow a new updater to be installed. Tomcat76's Windows XP SP3 list says to use the file Muweb_site.cab. ...but... http://adelvi.com/windows/hotfixes_xp.html says to use Wuweb_site.cab. ...which is correct/current? Or both? Or maybe MS just published a new version of Muweb with the patches on Tuesday...? --- I ran RegShot before and after. The difference file is attached below... mupage_dif.txt
  8. Ok here is the RegShot info, and my HFslip.log just for reference. I took the shots as tightly around the Microsoft Update process as I could get them. Edit: Hmmm I was just reading your earlier post again, and realized I didn't catch it right the first time. I used MU to install the killbits update... Is that ok, or should I do it again with just the full WindowsXP-KB973346-x86-ENU.exe file..? HFSLIP.TXT killbits_dif.txt
  9. NOLOGCOPY=1 in your HFTOOLS\HFANSWER.INI file to stop the log from being copied to the SOURCESS folder. and The BOOT.BIN is are used to burn a bootable Winblow$ Setup CD if you have mk-whatsit or CDIMAGE in your HFTOOLS\ folder. If I remember correctly, BOOB.BIN is created under the following circumstances: BBIE.EXE is in your HFTOOLS\ folder, and an original Windows Setup CD is in your CD drive. BBIE sucks the boot sector from the CD as BOOT.BIN and saves it for whatever burning software is used to make the resulting CD bootable. Not sure what BOOT.catalog is tho; might be something to do with a multiboot-CD. I haven't ventured into that territory yet. One brain-cramping project per month please... =-)
  10. No I'm sorry... I had my head in it all day, I guess I figured someone would understand me. I can't get the WindowsXP-KB973346-x86-ENU.exe Killbits update to slipstream. My Hfslip is 99.9% working perfectly now; as of today, the Microsoft Update page says the Killbits is the only update I have left to do on my test runs in vBox. I have it in the HF\ folder, but it's just not working, so I thought maybe it needed to go somewhere else. I saw a number of posts that indicated that Hfslip does not handle the internal structure of the Kilbits update, and a couple of people had workarounds, but they seemed a little outside of Hfslip's general order of things. So I figured I'd just ask...
  11. Ok I'm confused on the Killbits issue with Hfslip 1.7.8. I've searched the forum but got nothing but a case of brain cramp from all the hits. What's the proper way to use WindowsXP-KB973346-x86-ENU.exe...? (if even?) Thanks.
  12. FYI - as an afterthought, I also searched the CMD for "HF\" to see how much referred to it... Well... I withdraw my previous question... =-)
  13. Does HFSLIP allow for organizing the HF folder into sub-folders? I'm kinda thinking maybe not... I searched the CMD for "FOR /R" but didn't find any... I was thinking it would be useful to organize the HF folder into sub-folders such as Windows, IE, WM, and so forth. Thx.
  14. Heh. Ok thanks. I had it in the wrong folder then. I noticed when I was reading the sticky thread on what the current KB Updates are. Thanks.
  15. I have UPHClean-Setup.msi in HFSVCPACK_SW1... Is this correct, or should it be in HFGUIRUNONCE..? Tx.
  16. Well... It's not *me* installing them - they're being slipstreamed by HFSLIP... Which makes me wonder - what order does HFSLIP run the updates? I'm sure it must look for important specific ones first, like the Package Installer, but what about the rest? Does it do them in order by the KB######, or just the way the file system in the command window happens to throw the directory listing at it...?
  17. No. I only download them once, I've just re-run HFLSIP a few times to get where I am. Like this: 1) I made a baseline slipstream of WINXP+SP3+IE7+DX9, with all the slipstream-required updates like KB898461 (package installer), KB943460 (for IE7 ss), with swflash.cab and the other basic goodies described on TommyP's SP3 update page at http://users.telenet.be/tc76/winup/_winxpsp3.html. 2) I installed it in vBox and ran Microsoft Update. On the MU Results page, each item has a URL for more info, which I clicked to download that specific update. 3) I collected all the KBxxxxxx update files in an organized fashion into a folder called "Phase 1". 4) I copied these all to my HF folder, flushed out the SOURCESS folder, and ran HFSLIP again. 5) Then I repeated the process a second time, with a folder called "Phase 2". ...and that's where I am now. I only did it twice so far (other than all the failed attempts). According to MU, I have most everything current. All that's left is stuff like IE8, Silverlight, Desktop Search, and other junk. I basically followed the same process I would as if I were installing a normal copy of Windows XP from SP2 CD, and then ran MU over until it was current. But in this case everything needed to be saved, so functionally, running HFSLIP is substituded for the reboot one would normally do after a bunch of MU updates. Just as I'm typing this, I've realized I probably should have done all the large roll-ups first, and then the little ones on another run if they were still needed. Ok I was watching his web page. If an update becomes obsolete, but gets installed anyways, and then the later update is installed, is the result the same? Is it just copying files/keys into the same places twice? That's ok, I don't get what I'm saying a lot of the time, too. Thanks as always.
  18. I was wondering about the process of determining which service packs to include during the slipstream process, like you'd see on Tomcat's lists. What are the different ways to do it? I've been installing my HF-slipstreamed WINXPSP3+IE7+DX9 into vBox, running Microsoft Update, download each item one at a time, add them to the HF folder, and start all over. Is there a better way? Or different way? Could there be service packs I might want/need that are not listed by WU web page..? (I know there some like KB943460 that you need for successful IE7 integration, but those you find by reading the forum here.) Thanks.
  19. Thanks йδΐśέ... I love reading other people's bits of code. I always find something new or a different way to do something. B)
  20. It would also help to modify the Installation Sources value in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup. That way you won't have to tell Windows where the files are every time you need them. Yessir. Already on that. Been doing that since Winblows 98, I think... =-)
  21. Doesn't your rock has integrated LED lighting? Are you using last year's model? jaclaz No I tried to make a battery out of a lime and two coins, but my roommate kept stealing the limes for his beer, and the coins for the pony ride. =-)
  22. Ahhh I will see if I can find those somewhere and rattle around with them a bit. Thanks.
  23. otay thanks all... i see what you're saying... i'll go back under my rock now with my little solar pocket calculator... i haven't figured out why yet, but for some reason it always stops working under there...
  24. Umm... Perhaps my question was misunderstood. What I thought I asked was the best way to have HFSLIP tell Windows Setup to copy files - in this case the i386 folder - to the hard drive during setup? I was looking for an answer such as "INF file", or "batch file", or post-setup command, etc, and which part of HFSLIP it should be added to. I thoguht perhaps someone else may have done this and could offer me a suggestion.
