  1. Does it mean that I can't use your version of itunes if I want to use my ipod/iphone?
No it mean you need to install "AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi" to have iTouch and iPhone supported. iPod can work without the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.
  2. For me, I have a 160gb HDD that only has my OS on it and my downloaded programs from the internet. I have my 1tb external drive which holds my data and all my music! This way if my Main HDD crashes or fails, I'm not losing my data. But if it's the other way around, I'm pretty much stuck in a hole.
I would get another 1TB hdd and make a second copy of the datas. I have a 3.5mm thing where it can insert two 2.5" harddrives. Once a while I insert a 2.5" back up and sync all the important datas with SyncToy, then eject the harddrive.

The stupidest thing that can happen in this case would be to accidentally reverse backup process and tells SyncToy to overwrite the newer datas with old datas, also to delete all new datas not existing in the backup harddrive.

If there is a project you are working on for thousand of hours and then completely lost it

  3. Yes I have heard of that problem when you copy and paste many files Windows doesn't copy all of them. I really don't know why.

I just tried it with 42,074 and gets 42,068 files. But I'm not sure if those missing files are any important of if they are just temporary files. To confirm this I searched for "thumbs.db", I found two on my left HDD, and none on the right HDD. My conclusion is they just left out some unimportant files, but I could be very wrong.

  4. I do it all the time, I tend to have 3 different OS installed in one hdd. I use GParted to delete, create and resize partitions. Though I never leave important data on the same harddrive.

Edit: Actually now that I think about it, Windows Vista and 7's Disk Management has shrinking feature that can resize your partition. You can just use that.

    The GParted way:

For the 1st hdd, you can use GParted to delete the Windows partition, then resize the 90% partition back to 100%. The thing is if you resize a partition and files within the partition has to be moved across the hdd aswell, then the resizing process will takes a very long time with 1.5TB of datas. Because if XP partition was to the left and got deleted, the 90% partition is expanding itself to the left, GParted also will move all files within the partition to the left.

For the 2nd hdd, you can shrink it and leave 100gb of free space in the end of the hdd, then create a new partition out of that free space.

  5. When you read features claimed from this software it is a bit too good to be true, but I have read that it is actually a backend for malwares. Maybe someone with more knowlegde can shed some light for me about this software, but for now I will stay away from it.

Read post #21 of this thread: http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread....585#post1432585

This shows the registry modifications the UltraSurf.exe does: http://www.threatexpert.com/report.aspx?md...32956ef028b2b77

  6. May I add:

Disable the notify if you have Windows Home version, which doesn't Local Group Policy:

    1. Boot in safemode (F8).

    2. Go to Avira install folder and right click Properties on the file "avnotify.exe".

    3. In Properties, choose "Security" tab, then click on "Advanced" button.

    4. In the Advanced Security Settings window and within the Permission entries list, select "SYSTEM" and click "Edit" button.

    5. Check the box "Deny" for Traverse folder / Execute file.

    6. OK all the windows until they all close and reboot.

Disable the splash screen at start up:

Regedit -> HKLM -> Microsoft -> Windows - > CurrentVersion -> Run - > avgnt. Add "/ns" in the end of the path value.

(For Avira8 I believe you have to add "/nosplash" instead.)

  7. My understanding is, unless Dell provide the Win98 drivers in a CD, you may have to figure out the manufacturer and model of the USB hub within the Dell's LCD and get the win98 driver for it.

After googling a bit I found this Windows 98 USB Mass Storage Device Drivers, I guess that is what you are refering NUSB to though. It should work with the variety of USB plug and play devices as stated from that website.

As always, it is a good idea to list the model that you are referring to incase someone else who has it can share their experience.

  8. I have heard these stories, but I don't know how frequent it happen to people. Banning from an entire game is kind of like stealing your money to me, banning all games using the same engine is ridiculous. Everyone in your server got ban? It is possible to share the reason why you got banned? Or was it ban for no reason?

Truthfully I only play DODS on it, my favorite fps game, I could careless if they ban me from all the other games.

  9. There are lots of softwares that can do this, its called disk cloning. The partition is saved as in image file to be restored later. A good free software for this is CloneZilla. It can boot from a disc or a USB drive as well. I set it to compress the partition image to "lzma" (used by 7zip), takes a long time but the image size becomes smaller.

If you prefer something with easy to understand GUI, there is DriveImageXML, but I don't really use. There is also the retail Acronis TrueImage, which can create a bootable rescue disc. There is the classic Norton Ghost, but I haven't use it.

Also if in the case that you restored the partition and Windows doesn't boot, you'll need to manually set the partition as "active" (To do so, I use the bootable software GParted and flag the partition as "boot".)

  10. I wouldn't entirely dismiss XP Home, if you are using for home and non-business use it is fine. I feel some people who dismiss it entirely before further assessment. Although there is no Local Group Policy. If you reboot the computer in safe mode you can change the Software Restriction Policy settings for the files in it's Properties windows.

The specification that said it doesn't support multicore processor isn't correct. You can update the Uniprocessor in Device Manager to multi. But nLiting it and setting the CPU to automatic also does it.

    There, I fixed it.
  11. I also mentioned in another similar thread. iTunes 9 now require AppleApplicationSupport. You can install it separate, you will find its AppleApplicationSupport.msi when you extract it from iTunesSetup.exe package.

I also mentioned that the current version of QTAlt is 2.9.2 and only has QuickTime 7.6.2 files, while iTunes9 required 7.6.4. Therefor if you want to use QTA you'll need to wait for an update. Edit: new version of QTA is available.

  12. edit: wow I didn't realize how old this thread is.

I have no idea about drm with games, haven't buy any games lately. But my experience with Steam has been positive. They are very big and carries everything now. There are no hoops, you just pay for the game and download it immediately. As long as you can log into your steam client with your account you can download the games and play them.

Of course if you have Half Life 2 on steam you can also get other highly quality mods which are like a full game themselves, such as Insurgency.

  13. I want to note about QTSystem folder which is iTunes 9 also required a file called QTCF.dll, it is located in QTSystem, yet iTunes 9 won't be able to find it unless its placed in iTunes folder itself (atleast thats how I got it to launch).

I hate to break it to you, but Quicktime Alternative is still Quicktime. It doesn't have the QuickTime Player (<1MB ?) or the language files but everything else is basically the same.

What's the big fuss anyway? You don't have to use quicktime if you don't want.

There is also QuickTimeAlternativeLite which is smaller and is what I use. Currently though, as I am writing QTAlt version 2.9.2 only has QuickTime 7.6.2, but iTunes 9 required 7.6.4. Ofcourse iTunes now require AppleApplicationSupport as well. This software is kept getting bigger and bigger.
  14. I love Windows 7 the most! :yes::wub:

In close second is Windows xp I love windows XP

Windows 7 is amazing and so is xp

XP is fast but Windows 7 is definatly faster than vista and xp combined!:yes:

Can you explain how it is faster or give example or sources with benchmark? (I'm not saying this to be a troll, I really want to know.) Because everyone seem to be saying this, but to me it is only marginally faster than Vista and still have the annoying Vista layout (weird Display configuration layout with links instead of simple tabs like in XP, and Control Panel list items left to right and no details view) Opening a large executable file in Windows 7 with UAC turned on takes sometimes (ie 700mb), but I guess that goes with Vista as well. Even the simple act of opening a folder on 7 is slower than XP, half of the time the folder isn't in the view that you set it to, it has to be smart and thumbnail it. Or executing command lines in 7 taking slower than XP, when you write a bat file and launch them.
