I have heard reports of people using Alcohol 120% in Vista but i cant remember where.

Have you tried XP compatibility mode?

In Windows vista there is no option that I can easily find yet to view hidden files and boot.ini is hidden so the attributes cannot be easily changed. Also if you edit it my way then there is no problem with having to change the attributes as windows lets you edit it within this dialog. Yes - I changed that number in the parenthesis so that windows is now my default OS. Its works and thats all I care about.

To make it so that windows is default - This is how I did it. Control Panel -> System (or right click computer) -> Advanced -> in the bottom section Startup and Recovery Settings, press Advanced -> you can change the default OS here and also change the boot.ini -> in Vista i couldnt edit boot.ini directly and if you have problems with doing it this way, make sur e you are in vista safe mode. Thats how I did it. Also this is my boot.ini so you can return it to the way it was before [boot loader] timeout=20 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN /FASTDETECT multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(4)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows Longhorn" /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN /FASTDETECT /USENEWLOADER This may fix your problem.

Ok, I have Vista - Ive tried it out, but when i get to that time when I'm too frustrated with it not doing everything I want it to do (yes it is a beta after all) - what is the best way to remove it? Ive heard that the boot loader is hard to change. I have it on another hard drive currently. Thing is the OS will most likely be released when people will have better systems - 1 year is a long time in the computing world.

Why is it that hard to buy a DVD Drive? If you had internet capable of downloading vista you should have enough money for a DVD drive - they are so cheap these days.

Like alot of you, i will be doing a fresh install when SP2 comes out. I have my unnattended WinXP PRO cd ready for slipstreaming. What i want to know is how should i partition my drive? I have a 60 gig and a 120 gig. Im going to be installing XP on the 60 gig and i want to know how i should partition it. I have been told that i should leave 30 gig for XP, 2 gig for page file and 20 or so gig for other stuff, but my problem is that i have also been told that i shouldnt put the page file on a partition on the same HDD, i would like to clear this up and see what you recomend. And my final question, should i use the WinXP partition thing that comes up when i install? or use something else. P.S i know what filesysyem to use, just asking bout partitioning

Anyone know the switches for netlimiter? (silent install) or do i just copy the folder from program files and it will work?

I dont think its going to be what everyone is hoping for, just pretty graphics that will force eveyone out to upgrade to the latest graphics card

Update *Safemode doesnt work as it must use the logon module aswell *Last know good config doesnt work either *Will try to repair with WinXP cd So now the question is, how can i access all of my files (so i can backup onto second drive in computer) so that i can format again, without using the screwed windows (im thinking about trying a repair from the windows cd, but i dont like my chances of it working). I need to take into account its on an NTFS formatted drive, so this might prove tricky. Is it possible to get windows on a CD (bootable, like knoppix for linux) or install another copy of windows on the same drive? and i really need to find ou t what the error is so i can prevent it happening in the future.

After installing Firefox 9.02 (i am not sure if this is what caused it, i recently installed Office XP but that had a successful restart) i now are unable to use my computer as when it goes to logon stage, i get this message. Also, new updates from windows update were also installed Note: WinXP PRO, SP1, installed from Unnatended installation disk only recently The computer compleletly shuts down, only leaving the above message on screen And now for the question: How do i fix it? How do i stop it in the future? What is it?
