thank you but do you mean removing the pcb totally or just the part related to the spin motor? (i tried once by just disconneting the spin motor part of the pcb and the terminal seemed not working) I dont know who was stupid enough that told to insulating pins from motor (in original source user should insulate connector which goes to head assembly) remove whole pcb and check that you can connect to terminal, if you can i will guide you what to do. -

If drive is recognized but has no capacity you dont have to clear smart at all. its only needed when drive stays busy and produces CC error on terminal. You dont need to repeat all these steps from start, just continue on step where you stop. -

It happens when someone make a solution which doesnt underestand. There is no need to clear Glist ( i4,1,22 ) you can just recount translator without g-list clearing. anyway its no need to do a power off/on after g-list clearing. just send next command and then (after it complete) do a power cycle. -

You can find this connector on old Seagate ST351A/X - it is on motor to pcb cable. It have 6 pins butyou can easily cut it to 4, looks great and fits great. Just search all stuff that you can have, eg. old floppy drives, especially 5,25. printers etc... some type of cd-rom audio cable uses same raster but plastic piece is too big and it doesnt fit. You can also use a wire (its used on power cables from pc psu) just cut it, and make a hole inside with needle or sth. Use your imagination -

Oh Gradius, give him some hope. You cant fry terminals on drive by just shorting rx with tx. You should know that this connector is also used to limit drive to sata1. (next 2 pins) but smart owners can easily make mistake here. I dont think that placing a jumper there could fry terminal. Its just locked and solution is very easy. -

If you have 100% sure about working terminal it looks you got 7200.11 where terminal locks up. There are solutions but not for public domain as it happen with command set. -

arrow? you should get something like this: F3 F> or if its error which solution can fix: FlashLED - Failure code:000000CC Failure Address:xxxxxxxx FlashLED - Failure code:000000CC Failure Address:xxxxxxxx can you make a screenshot what arrow you see? if it gives CC error you need to follow instructions for BSY drive. Unscrew pcb from hda and connect to terminal. -

It seems nothing inside, does pc recognizes new hardware when you plug in only cable? if not it will not work. This board was inside that rubber plug? Weird. maybe electronics is in plug for phone? @edit this cable looks like DKU-2 which is desired for nokia with usb built in phone and contain only wires -

tell me model of this drive, p/n, fw and date and site. answer following questions: did you set 38400n1 no flow control? how do you power drive? from external psu or from pc? did you connect rx, tx and GROUND signal? did you press ctrl+z after connect in terminal? your drive stays busy or detects in strange way eg: Model....................................................... ST_M13FQBL Serial number............................................... QNR_BFW Firmware.................................................... 1204F3C8 @edit: just 1 thing, if you have any other seagate drive you can check it but baud will be 9600n1 -

just short tx and rx lines together and type anything on terminal. if you see what you type it means that adapter is working. note, if you have local echo turned on in options you should see all letters twice. to ensure that just type something when you havent rx and tx shorted, if you see anything then after short you should see all in double. -

VX9800 has usb port built-in so if you have usb cable it almost sure doesnt have any electronics inside. When you plug a cable into usb port does pc found new hardware? If not you cant use it. -

why dont you use any gsm cable? its really easier than making whole circuit from scratch. any usb cable which detects and install as serial port (when you connect only cable without phone) will work well, rx and tx lines can be determined from phone connector pinout or just by shorting rx and tx together. then you should see what you type on terminal. if you have local echo turned on you should see all letters twice. just search any cable at home take a picture of it then i will tell you if its good or not. -

which command you will use? m0,2,2,0,0,0,0,22 which was stolen by Okzo from unknown source or maybe m0,6,2,,,,,22 which is stolen from Acelab? fix for broken translator is easy, but I got few drives where terminal was locked. Another problem is when user try to recount translator with pcb from another drive or try to run this solution on working drive. -

kid? who is a kid? automating process is not a good idea, every drive is different. this really shouldnt be used without attention. how do you recognize on which port you need to connect? how you recognize that drive is ready for commands? its really good to leave it as is.
