  2. But still cant find an answer to this question.... Unattended install for Windows XP with SP3. Using the HKCU.reg via cmdlines.txt. I'm trying to find the key that configures "Use Windows Classic Folder" for the explorer view instead of the view that "Shows common tasks in folders". This option is found under "Folder Options" General Tab and is at the top in the Tasks section. I've got the key [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced] but unless i've misconfigured the values i cant find the solution here. Can someone put me out of my misery please as i've been searching for the last couple of hours now! Cheers
  3. This might be a dumb question as ive literally just stumbled across this and asking the first thing that comes to mind.... If you can put Windows 7 on to a VHD and boot from it then its loading on its own without having to be inside an OS to load the VHD, like if you were to use VMWorkstation etc, so presumably multiboot is possible and then have multiple VHD's on your hard drive? Say a WinXP VHD and Win7 VHD and choose which one to boot?
  4. Hi All, Im having a couple of issues and havent got the time at the moment to spend too long trying to work it out so i was hoping to get some assistance on here. Ive build an unattended disc, all works well, however, i dont want to use the driver pack stuff thats listed on here so i've been getting the drivers for the specific models my disc will be used on as its a corporate environment, the models in use are very specific. I've got a couple of desktop models on there and all is well, I then added drivers for a laptop model and all is also well, until i realised however, that using the disc on a desktop with all the drivers on ended up installing the touchpad "stuff" to the desktop model, so i ended up with a touchpad icon in the system tray down by the clock, this is obviously not required, the files are in the oempnpdrivers path, so i thought would only be used if required, but this has installed anyway. Any ideas? The other thing i wanted to ask about is the Textmode based stuff... I've successfully added in the iastor.sys file for using the Intel AHCI controllers in the textmode part of things and this works fine, however this driver supports multiple hardware platforms. Initially i had specifically entered the model i had but it would be better to have each of the hardware devices this supports in the file. How do i reference this 1 file to support multiple hardware ID's and the "friendly name" that gets associated with it, i tried something that i thought might work but it doesnt appear to, it just references the first entry associated with this system file. All help much appreciated
  5. You have a PM. As i understand it, wallpaper files should be in the Windows folder, this way they will appear in the list for selection when wanting to choose a wallpaper. So put your wallpaper files in $OEM$\$$ This is how mine are and it works
  6. You should be able to write a simple batch file using the variable for the %userprofile%\desktop to get it on there. Just modify this command below using that to grab the source files from the CD. (Oh and you'd need to put a copy of robocopy in your system32 folder inside $OEM$ as it doesnt come with the OS as standard) @ECHO OFF for %%i in (D E F G H I J K L M N O P Q R S T U V W X Y Z) do if exist %%i:\i386 SET cdrom=%%i: robocopy %CDROM%\I386 %windir%\I386 /MIR /V exit
  7. Nothing will install if there is no partition to install it on to. To just have 1 big partition on your drive you need to add Autopartition=1 in the [DATA] section
  8. All i do is configure the theme on a machine and save it then specify the theme in the WINNT.SIF [shell] CustomDefaultThemeFile = "%WinDir%\Resources\Themes\your theme name here.theme Then copy the related files to $OEM$\$$\resources\themes and it works fine for me.
  9. For reference i have just found this. The key is located here: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Intel\LANDesk\VirusProtect6\CurrentVersion\PatternManager\Schedule] And all these values represent how it works. Hope that helps people

  11. Perfect, thanks for your help. Ive just formatted the disk again and the tool is running now using all my original files, i'll then manually change that line but that looks to be promising
  12. Ok, commenting out that line gets me to the Partition prompt. The hard drive is showing as Disk 0, ID 0, Bus 0 and is first to show The USB Stick is showing as Disk on Disk [MBR] and is below the HDD. The HDD is C: The USB is D: - Shouldnt this be U: or is that a later stage? Selecting the Hard drive then proceeds with copying the files in the text based part. Im going to compile the USB stick again with my original files with that line commented out to see if it then works, i guess changing it to a zero would also have the same effect?
  13. I just tried renaming the Migrate.INF file to try your other suggestion above but i get the same issue. The error above is generated directly after it says its checking the C: drive, it doesnt show any partition information.
  14. Ok, I have just tested again. With the orginal Volume License version of WinXP SP2 CD i have, this PC is able to install with no additional storage controller drivers. I have copied this XP CD to my hard drive, path C:\XPCD and then run the setupmgr to create a new WINNT.SIF from scratch and copied this WINNT.SIF in to the i386 folder in that directory.   15. Thanks, i'll try your suggestions. Im just recreating my source files with original CD files and a very basic WINNT.SIF and will try again to see what happens and if that works i'll then attempt to build up further from there. Incidently, no there are no other devices in the machine USB etc. The 8gb stick is a Kingston DataTraveller DTI/8GB. If this still fails after me cutting things back to the most basic and out of the box Unattended settings then i'll try your suggestion to see what else is happening with device partition lettering but im hoping the original files will work and i can build from there and narrow down the problem afterwards, will know in about half hour or so.
  16. As stated above, when performing the installation the $OEM$\$$ folders are identical on the 1GB and 8GB memory sticks. The only change is a subfolder under $oem$\$$ and the additional folder is titled Install and simply contains source files for other applications for the runonceex.cmd and the only reason thats not on the 1GB stick is due to its size. The source files are the same files for both the 1Gb and 8Gb sticks with the one exception of that install folder due to size. The $$ folder copies across wallpaper files, power scheme files, a theme, couple of tools to the system32 folder and the installation files for applications. It does not have an AHCI/SATA controller or drives and as per above, it will install fine with the standard WinXP SP2 CD, however i have just tested with the base driver pack and mass storage inc textmode based drivers slipstreamed in I have not touched the WINNT.SIF at all after running the tool and have checked that the [unattended] section has been removed by the tool. As i say though, on a DVD, the files work perfectly, but using your tool to create the USB stick install seems to trip up so i just need to work out where and why as this will help speed up my testing and adjustments considerably
  17. Hmmm it seems i spoke too soon. It was prompting for partition info (as intended according the answer to my last question) when using my 1GB USB Stick. However when i use my 8GB stick which then contains 1 additional folder within $OEM$\$$ that contains other application files for later installation its giving me an error saying its unable to create \Windows prior to trying to copy files to the hard drive at the start of the text based installation Im guessing from reading other info, its working on the 1GB disk because it doesnt have enough room to install Windows and therefore prompts for another location to install and the 8GB has enough room so there is no prompting, which leads me to think that its trying to install on to the USB Stick when using the 8GB. Its probably worth noting that this machine does not require any F6 additional drivers to install and will happily proceed with installation with whatever is shipped on the CD as standard How do i correct this issue?

  19. Hi, im having an issue with the USB stick. I've got a DVD setup and working perfectly doing the unattended setup in full for me. However, when i use the source files for that disc with this tool, it no longer runs fully automatically. Its now prompting me to choose which partition to use and then do i want to format it etc. Ive not altered the WINNT.SIF files at all after the tool has created the USB Stick and ive confirmed the [data] section has the Autopartition=1 and Unattended="Yes" WINNT.SIF [DATA] section shown below [Data] AutoPartition=1 MsDosInitiated="1" UnattendedInstall="Yes" floppyless="1" winntupgrade="no" win9xupgrade="no" EulaComplete="1" Ive then answered the partition questions and allowed the process to continue and the rest of the installation appears to run unattended as intended. I have read through here a couple of times but most times its been late so its possible ive glossed over the answer to my problem. Any help would be appreicated though!
