  1. Thank you both, I extracted, made a new SFX archive made sure it's completely silent used /silent /no_ui and it worked flawlessly I have a couple additional questions. - can the icon of the new SFX I made be changed so it looks like the original of Nero? - is it possible to use 7-zip instead of WinRAR to make the new SFX...if so how? I assume I'd have to use the cmd line version, do I just put it in my system32 folder? - Which commands do I have to use in RunOnceEx.cmd to extract/install it if I do use 7-zip? Hope I'm not asking for too much
  2. Yes I get that as well using /s but it's not like the program is installed, some shortcuts do appear but that's it. oops almost forgot thank you for trying benners
  3. Thx for the reply but I already tried /S and /s without any luck. I think my original approach is correct, everything would probably go smoothly if it wasn't for that "Click to continue" . /me awaits other possible solutions
  4. I'm still stuck here...someone pls help me out
  5. Don't know if anyone has been experiencing this but I seem the extraction process no matter what I do if I use the SFX file (nero63120.exe) . This is what I use: REG ADD %KEY%\005 /V 1 /D "%systemdrive%\install\Applications\Nero\nero63120.exe /silent=1 /silent /no_ui /sn=xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx /write_sn" /f also tried without /silent using just /silent=1 and /no_ui didn't help any. If i extact the SFX archive and use: REG ADD %KEY%\005 /V 1 /D "%systemdrive%\install\Applications\Nero\setup.exe /silent /no_ui /sn=xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx /write_sn" /f Everything works like it's supposed to...there's obviously no extraction screen The problem with using the 2nd method is that once extracted Nero is quite huge 92,1MB as opposed to 27,7MB when using the SFX. Any ideas what I could be doing wrong with the SFX version of my RunOnceEx...I really don't want to see anything while installing Nero and using the setup.exe is not a viable alternative since it's so big.
  6. I had the exact same thing happen to me, never had that problem before and used the same switches and everything. I get that SCSI/RAID prompt and can do nothing else but click. Hope this issue will be resolved soon.
  7. I've been messing around with this for quite a while now and I just can't make it work. This is the app that is keeping me up DirectUpdate and it uses this installer Mindvision . This thread has been quite helpful but I can't seem to get around a screen that pops up during the install. U can c how it looks here. I'm referring to "Double-click on the decompressed install file to begin installation. Click on the message to begin installation." Obviously it wants some interaction from the user and that is exactly what I don't want...duh I tried pskill, taskkill but since it's a rundll32.exe (at least that's what I think...checked by ctrl+alt+del went to applications and used Go To Process) it's not the best method. Might have been because I didn't use sleep but I doubt that's the problem since it wants a click...as far as I can tell. A long shot but would something like CMDOW.EXE "Something Here" /CLS work? Don't know what to put there since the screen has no name. This is what I have REG ADD %KEY%\005 /VE /D "DirectUpdate 3.6.3.537" /f REG ADD %KEY%\005 /V 1 /D "%systemdrive%\install\Applications\DirectUpdate\DUSetup363.exe -p: recsettings.ini" /f I really don't know what else I could try and would appreciate any help any1 has to offer...surely there is a way to install this
  8. I'd love to remove OE but since it is needed for .mht files I can't Could u pls provide a link of some sort as to how I can "add msinm.exe to the restricted programs key so no one can launch it" or even better a reg tweak that removes all links to it. Are those two approaches the same...will I end up with the same result if I apply one or the other?
  9. OK thx for that info...always removed TS's cause I never use them...but kept pic viewer and my probs with user acc r a thing of the past.
  10. Thank you, I'll try to make a couple different configurations using 0.97...hopefully I won't have that same problem.
  11. Thank you for all the assistance MCT it took me a while but I'm 99% I figured it out. As unbelievable as it sounds it was Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. I'm not using the classic start menu but I think if I did or there was a way of removing the picture next to the user name (same applies to the welcome screen) I wouldn't have that problem. It seems that when I remove Pic and Fax Viewer it somehow interferes with that...I came to that conclusion by the fact there's no pic there once I remove it and once there is no pic there I can't create any user acc's as I've described b4. So my options r go with the classic start menu (might still not help cause of the welcome screen - haven't tested it), somehow removing the pic from the start menu with a reg tweak if that is at all possible or simply disabling Pic and Fax Viewer but retaining thumbnail support similar to what is described in one of these links (not sure which path I should take): http://www.tweakxp.com/tweak2132.aspx http://www.tweakxp.com/tweak123984.aspx http://www.tweakxp.com/tweak148.aspx I may be a bit off but I'm extremely confident Windows Picture and Fax Viewer was the sole cause of all my troubles...as always suggestions r more then welcome.
  12. Oh was afraid u were gonna say that r there components that r more likely to have caused this I mean is there a way I could reduce the trial and error process?
  13. MCT did what u and Alanoll suggested and here r the changes I made (these r the changes I always make except for the "select components for removal" didn't remove anything this time): added svcpack.inf (deleted svcpack.in_), added winnt.sif and added these lines to dosnet.inf [OptionalSrcDirs] Update Also applied various regtweaks and a few windows updates, like I always do...nothing new there. The problem is gone. So now I'm wondering what do I have to do to make this work, should I post some logs, my dosnet.inf, svcpack.inf anything...cause everything was done exactly like I always do it except for removing components?
  14. Am attaching the nLite.log and here's also my winnt.sif if any other files (logs, tweaks,...) r needed pls let me know and I'll post them. ;SetupMgrTag [Data] AutoPartition=0 MsDosInitiated="0" UnattendedInstall="Yes" [Unattended] UnattendMode=FullUnattended OemSkipEula=Yes OemPreinstall=Yes UnattendSwitch="yes" TargetPath=\WINDOWS FileSystem=* [GuiUnattended] AdminPassword=* EncryptedAdminPassword=NO OEMSkipRegional=1 TimeZone=95 OemSkipWelcome=1 [UserData] ProductKey=KeyHere FullName="NameHere" OrgName="" ComputerName=NameHere [Display] BitsPerPel=32 Xresolution=1600 YResolution=1200 Vrefresh=85 [TapiLocation] CountryCode=386 AreaCode=01 [RegionalSettings] LanguageGroup=2 SystemLocale=00000424 UserLocale=00000424 InputLocale=0424:00000424 [Identification] JoinWorkgroup=WORKGROUP [Networking] InstallDefaultComponents=Yes EDIT: I basically remove these: Removing selected components: - Accessibility Options - Briefcase - Defragmenter - Games - Internet Games - Pinball - Screensavers - Wordpad - Smartcards - SCSI - Communications Apps - FrontPage Extensions - Internet Information Services - Messenger - Message Queuing - MSN Explorer - Netmeeting - Network Monitor - Outlook Express - Synchronization Manager - Web Folders - Arabic - Baltic - Chinese Simplified - Chinese Traditional - Cyrillic - Georgian - Greek - Hebrew - Indian - Japanese - Korean - Thai - Turkish - Vietnamese - Images and Backgrounds - Windows Picture and Fax Viewer - Media Center - Media Player - Mouse Cursors - Movie Maker - Music Sample - Old Sound Rec and CDPlayer - Paint - Speech Support - Tablet PC - Windows Sounds - Application compatibility patch - Disk Cleanup - File and Settings Wizzard - Manual Installation (winnt32.exe support) - MS Agent - Modem Support - Printer Support - Search Assistant - Tour - Upgrade from Win9x/NT - Zip Folders - Autoupdate - Background Intelligent Transfer - ClipBook - Error Reporting - Fax Services - Indexing Service - Remote Registry - System Restore - Terminal Services - Universal Plug and Play - DOCS - SUPPORT - VALUEADD nLite.log
  15. OK thx MCT will do that...but as far as my original problem is concerned i don't think I'll even try puting that .dll in the "keep" section of nLite since I got my hands on another netplwiz.dll and that is also exactly the same as the one I have on my customised version of XP and another normal XP box...so all three r the same. It has to be something else, what I have no idea.
  16. No I'm under a different name so that could be it. Which .msi file inside which .iso? Don't think it will help since the .dll is exactly the same on my other normal Win XP box but am willing to try pretty much anything so this will be one of those "tries" hopefuly some1 else will come up with another idea
  17. MCT thx for the prompt reply. I read quite a bit about nlite and Windows in general so I have a pretty good idea what can be removed without causing any problems and that is why I didn't remove any of the experimental options...still I'm thinking something about those lines as well just have no idea what. VMware doesn't freeze at all, didn't happen to me once except when I try to make a new account in the manner I described. I also have RAM on maximum for best performance and another thing I don't think I'd be getting that "error in netplwiz.dll missing entry:usersRunDll" if the problem was RAM reletad. It could be a VMware problem in general but I doubt it cause IIRC I was able to make a new acc on a normal XP under VMware np. BTW another friend tested the same .iso I made under VMware and had the exact same problem...he runs other OS's just fine so resources aren't what's causing this...I think. On another note neither I or he were able to install VMware tools for that particular OS...they install np for others...it's probably not related but thought it can't hurt if I mention it.
  18. I've been messing around with an unattended, customized (removed what I thought I won't use with nLite) version of Windows XP SP1 lately and have come across a problem. I'm testing it under vmware since I don't have a pc to spare and every time I want to create a new account (am already running Windows without any problems) Start\Control Panel\User Accounts it freezes...I can't create a new account. I then tried Start\Run\rundll32 netplwiz.dll,UsersRunDll and get this error: "error in netplwiz.dll missing entry:usersRunDll" I thought I'm making some progress here since my netplwiz.dll is having some problems so I compared the one from the customized version with the "normal" one I have on a different PC. They were exactly the same and I can create a new user acc on the other PC without any warning or anything...it works like it should. So now I'm lost what exactly is causing this problem, am I not running a service that might be needed to create a user acc, don't I have a file that is needed or is it something else? What is causing it and how do I solve it, btw I can create a new user acc using Start\Control Panel\Administrative Tools\Computer Management without any problems whatsoever but that's not how I'm used to doing things (although I can if needed) but would really like to find a solution for what I described above. Thx in advance to anyone who will come up with any advice/solution/idea,..
  19. Can't say anything else but dead wrong (like we r all n00bs), won't even be drawn into a discussion with u since anything I or any1 else says about the benefits Firefox offeres as compared to IE is ignored by u...happy browsing.
  20. Here r a few reasons y I don't like IE (and y I like Firefox): http://www.xulplanet.com/ndeakin/arts/reasons.html http://channels.lockergnome.com/news/archi..._explorer.phtml I browse quite a bit (several hours a day) and the vast majority of sites I visit work great in Firefox if I come accross a site that doesn't I e-mail the webmaster telling them their site isn't w3c compliant and if they could fix that (btw not every1 uses Wins and IE, more and more ppl r on *nix,... these days)...y should it be w3c compliant well for one thing look at the members list here http://www.w3.org/Consortium/Member/List as u might notice Microsoft is also on that list, so IE should be standard compliant as well but as proven time and time again it is not. The only thing that I miss in FF is .mht support but something similar to that is being worked on...slowly but it is. I think FF is the best browser out there for several reasons security, features, speed, doesn't eat up a lot of resources, standard compliance,... I told tons of my friends about FF some embarced it some didn't and I asked the ones that didn't y they stuck with IE...most replies were cause I'm used to it. I serioulsy can't fathom y ppl r still using IE.
