  1. Hi guys. I have a question. My CPU runs at a stable 55-58°C, which I find to be rather.. um.. hot. My fan runs at ~2950 RPM and my room temperature is usually between 25-35°C during summer, which it is now.. anyway, is this bad for my CPU? The program that tracks my CPU heat (PCAlert4) has set the threshold to 75°C.. but still.. I see others say they have somewhere between 30-50°C, usually lower.. and so I figured mine might be too warm... I think I'll buy a new one. What do you think?
  2. Yeah... well.. I was in doubt as to where to post. It had to do with software, I figured, so I put it here... move it around if you feel I'm wrong.
  3. I just found this article very interesting... I was thinking it might be interesting for you guys as well.. Check out the Piracy Article. It's about piracy in general, as well as why piracy actually can be good and how to protect your software against it.
  4. It is possible, but it's extremely hard to do, at least I believe so... the compability mode works in the registry, in HKEY_USERS\<UserCode>\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers\, where you'd add an entry, called for example "C:\Windows\Program.exe", a REG_SZ type (string), and set its value to "WIN2000". The hard part is figuring out what your UserCode is. I don't know a way, but maybe somebody else knows.
  5. Ok, granted, I see your point. At least the admins or um.. moderators are the only ones who can close the topic and open a new one (well, anyone can do that, really), in order to prevent it from growing extremely large... aye?
  6. Is it just me, or is this thread getting too big? The admins on the site should make a page with a collection of these reg tweaks and then unsticky this topic, and start a new thread, where they tell people to check out the reg tweak collection page before posting new registry tweaks. Here it says 19 pages (30 posts per page), and I have to say that searching through all the 19 pages to see if your tweak has already been posted is getting rather tedious. Not that I have additions, but I was thinking of the sake of others, especially newbies. I may be wrong to call others that, since I'm most likely considered that here still , but I don't feel like one.
  7. @Alanoll: I don't see what's so active about it... but I'll agree it looks nice. Although the choice of font (the graffiti-like font) is something I don't like. Oh well. We're all entitled to different opinions. Also, the page looks really bad in Opera and Mozilla, due to bad CSS syntax. IE on the other hand gladly accepts errors, which is a pain in the a**, since that makes people who make sites and test them in IE do mistakes like on this one, which makes them useless in browsers other than IE. I use Opera, and here's what it looks like: Opera screenshot (Looks the same in Mozilla) I assume you use IE, since you obviously don't know this... I just wish more people would see how their sites look in other browsers. My site works with all three browsers mentioned here, plus the Mac browser, Safari, I think it is... that's the way it should be. And blablabla, I'm just rambling, going way OT in this thread, so I'll just end this with a small comment: I have always like clean, simplistic-looking sites, thus I make my own that way. (This BB theme fits my taste very well, as another example)
  8. lol .. it is because the link leads to a file on my PCs web server.. and since I turn it off sometimes, at least when I'm sleeping, and since you accessed the image at 3 in the morning (in my time zone) there's no wonder it didn't work.. try again, I'll leave my pc running for at least 24 hours now, so you'll have a fair chance of seeing it...
  9. Very good that you take critisism well. I like that. Those services mostly suck.. you rarely get anything decent for free. The logo ain't too bad, really. It could be better, really, but honestly, so could most other things in the world. Hmm.. I still see horizontal rulers on your page, even after doing a refresh.. I don't know if you've updated the changed version or not... personally, I dislike horizontal rulers alltogether... but that's just me. You must've changed them or something, or else my mind just remembers them as worse.. anyway, I just suggest you use another color than blue for both links and background, even if they aren't the same brightness. Not neccessarily colorful.. just that I like them to have some kind of spirit.. or some kind of pure, nice theme.. I'll show you how my page is going to look, just to show you what kind of style/theme I am making. It's of course possible that you think that page sucks, which means that we're not gonna be able to discuss this, since we'll have quite different opinions.. it'll be like an opera fan complaining music with a punk. See my Webpage
  10. I hope you want honesty, cause that's what I'll give you.. mkay... The logo is very.. straightforward.. very simplistic font and the diamondshaped gradient thing isn't too much "wow" either. But it's not bad. It does look ameatureish, but not crappy. It may just be me, but those horizontal rulers do not fit with the rest of the theme on the site. Also, the color of your links (that normal blue) does really not match your background. Talking of matching, at this may also just be me, but the color of the logo doesn't really match the color of the background, either.. Also, as a tip instead of criticism.. try using more than four colors on the site (white and dark blue on the logo and black and um.. lighter blue on the page). Finally, although you might not need this, it's just that I'm a big fan of it, try getting your page validated. Most unlikely to happen as long as you use Microsoft Office to build pages though.
  11. @mutahir: You know, you should really read the topic before you start posting stuff. I don't think posting about your eMule problem has anything to do with "Best Peer-to-Peer Software"
  12. Yeah, that did the trick! Thank you very much.
  13. Ok, I'll give it a try. Thanks.
  14. Ok guys, here's the deal: I have a couple of movie clips (about 25) where the sound levels are spanning from very low to extremely loud, assuming I have my computer volume set to a normal value. And I wonder, does anyone know if there's a program that can normalize the sound level in these movies? I know there are programs for WAVs and MP3s, such as AudioGrabber (for WAV) and MP3Gain (for MP3), but do you know of a program that can do it for movies? I could most likely pick the movie clips apart, separate audio and video, and then put them back together after normalizing the sound part, however, that would require me to re-code the movie, which you all know, results in a lower display quality.. and I must say some of these clips couldn't really handle much more reduction of quality. TIA.
  15. BitTorrent all the way, baby. Gotta love how you can get whole seasons of TV Shows there. Saves a lot of VHS costs. (I know, I could get a DVD Recorder, but hey... CDs aren't too bad either, and with a TV-Out on my PC, it is more than good enough.) EDIT: Oh, oh! And you can also get TV-Show which you'd be unable to get otherwise (cause they don't show in your own country for some reason or another..) - but I'm babbling.. this thread isn't about that.
  16. I really need a program that can keep everything together for me.. appointments, birthdays, notes, contacts, you name it.. I've tried using Lotus Organizer, but I didn't really like it, it was too much work to just add stuff, and it didn't feel very user-friendly.. I can't say I like Microsoft Outlook either.... So.. anyone have suggestions about software that suit my needs? Just an Organizer that's all. It'd be preferable if you've had nice experiences with it of course... And I'd prefer it to be freeware, but as long as it doesn't cost more than a house, I'm sure I could take shareware as well..
  17. I ran the setup like so: and configured things like I wanted, and then copied the setup.iss file to the setup directory..However, there are two concerns. On this computer here, I have my Program Files folder at "F:\Program Files", but this is very unlikely to be the case in future installations, just as much as it is unlikely to always be "C:\Program Files" Here's the line from the iss files: I tried changing it to but then it started complaining that the target drive does not have enough space or something. Got any suggestions to this?Second, I have to agree to the License agreement (which makes the install non-unattended.. would anyone of you know how to have this to go away? I've already agreed to it when installing it while attending (to make the iss file) Oh yeah, one more thing... as soon as setup has started, RunOnceEx continues to move on to the next list item (and "start /w" also does this...) -- suggestions on how to make the silly installation wait until it's done?
  18. Hi. I recently joined this forum. I've already posted a few messages in the thread about nLite, although I discovered now that I might should've posted here first. Oh well, better late than never, right? I'm an 18 year old male from Oslo, the capital of Norway. My real name is Alexander, although you may call me Alex or by my nick DarkPhoenix, or maybe even Phoenix. It's not that big a deal. I have also put my picture up on my profile page, although mind you that the picture is not truly representative of how I look. First of all, I usually wear glasses, and secondly, I don't look that goofy usually. I took the picture as a joke, and figured "hmm, cool, I could use this as an MSN Messenger Display Picture", which I still do. And now I use it here. Because I don't fear being a clown. How did I discover this place? The story is quite weird really. It all started many years ago when I disovered INF files, and their ability to be used as installation programs. Through them I also discovered the RunOnce method, which fascinated me, for some reason. After playing around with INFs for a while, I got bored, and just left it. Until a couple of days ago, when I had gotten Colin McRae Rally 4 for my dad, and didn't want to tell him, I wanted to install it on his PC and have it run the next time he ran it, but only once. So I thought a while, and back to my mind came the RunOnce method. Being a few years ago, I remembered basically nothing about it, and decided to search for it on the internet. This search brought me to AaronXPs Unattended XP CD Page about RunOnceEx. Unattended XP CD? my attentive mind thought. It sounded very interesting. I just skimmed through it to begin with, my mission was another, as you might remember from a few sentences back, but told myself to take a good look at it once I was done with the other task. So, I did. I'm in the middle of making the Unattended CD right now, as a matter of fact. It'll be so lovely to finally be able to just turn the PC on, set up the correct partitions (which I believe can be done from inside the Textbased part of setup) and go to school. (evt. go to bed) And when I come back from school (evt. wake up) - my PC is installed and ready for use. I'm glad others have done this before me. I would never have been able to do this myself, I think. Even the idea was new to me until I disovered this site.. but I'm sure I've come to the right place for Unattended XP installs. So far I've noticed that people here are nice, helpful and humorous. Excellent if you ask me. People don't seem to hide things they know either, which is lovely. Instead they seem to wanna compete about helping others. Lovely, that. If you've read all down to here, I must say you're a cool person. As you might have guessed, I'm talkative. Very. Anyway. My nickname, like my picture, is rather unrepresentative. I'm not very dark at all. I'm quite nice a guy, I believe. You, dear reader, can be a judge of that, after I've profiled myself enough on this forum.. if I ever get that far... During the creation of my unattended CD, I will most likely have some questions, so be prepared everybody. I trust you will be helpful, like you seem to be with others. Hello again, everybody, and have a nice day.
  19. Probably won't help if I keep complaining, but at least I try to do something. I just tried out beta.94, to no avail.. did not make anything better... *sigh*Also, I don't wanna be rude, but the interface is quite sad at the moment. It seems not to care much for those who have problem seeing colors for instance.. and mind you I haven't changed any colors, this is the standard color set.. see the screenshot to see what I mean. Also, the combobox is out of place...
  20. Yeah, tried that, it's no good. I'm a programmer myself, and seeing the source code would help me a great deal, however, as a programmer, I know you most likely don't wanna give that away, so I'm not gonna ask for it, but I just wanna know, what happens in the stage where "Please wait..." is the status?
  21. Hi. I'm all new here. I have a problem with the nLite program, it stops progressing at a certain point every time I run it.. I've attached a screenshot in order for you to see. Here's the log, as long as the log got, anyway... Do you know what's wrong, nuhi?
