  1. I would also like to find the combination of WINNT32 switches & WINNT.SIF settings that will allow to have choice of partition. Especially if I could just use build folder (where WINNT.SIF is on HDD) without an ISO or CD. Any luck with this?? As far as the lettering goes, I export the key [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MountedDevices] from my main install, and then import that on my fresh install on the other partitions (after removing Key) and reboot. AT YOUR OWN RISK. Get a fresh export if you alter partition sizes. On anything else you import, try to use %SYSTEMDRIVE% rather than C: , but remember that you have to use cmd or inf with variables -- can use reg files ONLY with fully defined path. So, any help on the combination of WINNT32 switches & WINNT.SIF settings that will allow to have choice of partition?
  2. Hmmm, My expand arrows only show the text "Search Options". The only way I can see the sub options is to tick "Advanced Options". And when I search say for oem on c:/ it finds 0 files w' "Advanced Options" NOT ticked and 37 files w' "Advanced Options" ticked (w' the sub options already ticked) I guess when testing various combinations of settings, people need to actually search for a system file; rather than just look to see if the "Advanced Options" option stayed ticked. Maybe someone who does NOT remove Search Assistant can let us know what settings work for them.
  3. Are you saying that at one time you definitely did NOT have to tick the Advanced Options??? IOW: Was it already ticked when you opened Search? I'd love to know how you got it to do that in the first place. Wonder if doing a new build with Search Assistant left in, with the same reg settings, would get this back? 4. Nice tip. So just use it on like what RVM Integrator leaves behind? I'll have to do some experimenting with 7zip to see how well it does on my old hardware. "MUCH less time then actually copying the files" sounds nice, plus its more protected and no doubt about which one??. Anyone know of any freeware archivers that can do this?

  6. Version 2.01 (which worked great for me) was the latest in this thread: http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?act...=21&t=19744 But I now see there is another thread with more recent versions. http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?act...=21&t=20555 Hope this is the latest version: Download Smart Driver Backup 2.11 here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/2mbuwu http://rapidshare.com/files/87015208/Smart...up2.11.zip.html Note: Edit the URL if you get a redirect issue (remove "http://redirect.php/?url=" )
  7. That worked when I first posted it, but now the redirect in that link is causing a problem. 8. It's not so obvious to new users that nLite will make irreversible changes to their previous work. And both of these workarounds will help new users who want to reverse changes / put something back in. Nuhi & team will do whatever they please. And I already know how to deal with these nLite quirks, so I don't really care if they add these features or not. These workarounds were offered to help new users.
  9. On a PC already set up with the drivers you want, use SmartDriverBackup201.zip http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?sho...mp;#entry134279 to generate a folder with your drivers. Then point nLite to that folder to load multiple drivers.
  10. If laptop is already set up with the driver you want, then use SmartDriverBackup201.zip http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?sho...mp;#entry134279 to generate a folder with your drivers. Then point nLite to that folder to load multiple drivers.
  11. It might be easiest to just do a new nLite image (with needed changes), especially if you followed the tips here: Workarounds 4 Absent nLite Features http://www.msfn.org/board/Workarounds-4-Ab...es-t123939.html
  12. Workarounds 4 Absent nLite Features Absent nLite Feature: No option to generate / use cumulative preset. Workaround: Rename your largest session (to reflect date, features, etc.) as your main cumulative preset for that particular build. Place a shortcut to ExamDiff.exe in your \nLite\Presets folder. Then select your main cumulative preset along with any other session / preset, drag these 2 presets to your ExamDiff.exe shortcut, and pick & choose from options used so to update your main cumulative preset. Tips for ExamDiff: tick "Treat both files as text files" and untick "Show differences only". http://www.prestosoft.com/edp_examdiff.asp & http://www.prestosoft.com/edp_edhistory.asp --Note: Edit the URL if you get a redirect issue (remove "http://redirect.php/?url=" ). And please feel free to suggest a better file compare utility. Absent nLite Feature: Leave original image untouched (would also allow CD to act as original image). This option, if ticked, would allow user to define separate paths for original & final image. This option might also avoid some copying with the removal of some components Workaround: Prep your original image as usual with SP and Updates. Then, make a copy this image, rename this copy as needed, and then run nLite and point it to this new copy. Avoids having to redo all of your original prep work (not so obvious to new users).
  13. Also tried changing folder options from classic to show tasks, but no diff.
  14. Yes, I also have 'view hidden' and 'system' files & show extensions turned on (don't want anything hidden). I keep thinking there has got to be some configuration file or something that so many people are missing. Don't know how you are getting it to find system / hidden files without having the Advanced Options checked. Would you happen to have run a system wide attribute remover at some time? Did you happen to verify the attributes of those files found? Just fishing for anything here... since I can't imagine the folks at M$ doing all these little adjustments every time they want to do some serious searching. Mine will also not remember window position or view settings.
  15. I've been having the same problem. Used a batch file to replace some files and then import some regs. This batch file works flawless if I manually run it after windows has fully booted. But during RunOnce, the batch file runs with nothing but errors. I'm using the v4 format (first line REGEDIT4) for my reg files, but name them as text files for easier editing. With lines in batch file like: REG IMPORT rSwapOnD300.txt I also tried running from CD and from HDD with same result.
  16. Are there some config / ini files in locations like "C:\Profiles\Administrator\Application Data\Windows Search", or anywhere else, that I might be missing?
  17. I and others have confirmed that the other options (that do stay ticked) within / below the Advanced Options check box are not actually enabled until the Advanced Options check box is ticked. I also use classic search and have Indexing Service disabled, in case these settings make any difference.
  18. Yep, found those on a previous search, but those and various other tweaks in that key did not KEEP ticked the Advanced Options check box. beats, do you have Search Assistant enabled?
  19. I realize how old this issue is and recent web search still finds no solution. Has anyone here gotten search to remember the user choice to use Advanced Options? Or should I just remove search and use a better alternative? Recommend better alternative??? TIA
