Okay first off make sure you have the proper driver for your hard drive. this is what you need Driver Try to add this driver using vLite and changing nothing else. There are no textmode drivers in Vista. I suggest you reset your bios to defaults also before reinstalling. For the record, I find it awfully hard to believe there are any compatibility issues with your DVD drive especially since it's a new laptop and what not.
