  1. I am trying to get Vista Ultimate x86 to install on my new Dell Studio 1735. The DVD drive it came with is a "Optiarc DVDRWBD BC-5600S". Unfortunately, Vista Setup is complaining with: "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now." I have a thorough description of the problem here: http://www.dellcommunity.com/supportforums...thread.id=63589 In any case my understanding is this is because I need to install the SATA Controller. The device/driver for this is: Intel® 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2829&SUBSYS_02561028&REV_04 PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2829&CC_0106 C:\Drivers\storage\R180982\iaahci.inf However I found a much newer version of this driver on Intel's website: http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df...?ProductID=2101 Neither driver works when I try to Browse to it when I get the "DVD device is missing" error in Vista. Basically, when I point to iaahci.inf Vista Setup thinks for a moment and then pops up this error: "No new devices could be found. Make sure the driver files are correct and located on the driver installation media." I was doing some reading and perhaps Vista won't discover the device at this stage it is because it is a textmode driver? I am not totally sure the difference between a textmode and normal driver, and even if I can load a textmode driver at this stage. The driver does have a txtsetup.oem file in the driver directory. Anyway, I read that if it is a textmode driver, I would need to slipstream the driver in using nLite... but since this is Vista I need to use vLite. So I put in my Microsoft stock Vista Ultimate DVD and robocopied the contents over to C:\Vista. The only change I made was to integrate this driver in, and save settings (no rebuilding). After burning the ISO there seems to be no effect... Vista Setup still has this issue. Couple questions here: 1) Can I load textmode drivers at the stage where it says it can't find the DVD device in Vista Setup? If yes, then I really don't need vLite, something else must be wrong. 2) Does vLite even support textmode drivers? I was unable to find any documentation about this. Or are people who are adding textmode drivers manually manipulating the Vista files? 3) If no, can I add the Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver into the Vista files manually -- and if so, can somebody point me to thorough instructions on doing so? 4) Other than this, does anybody know what I could be doing wrong which would prevent Vista Setup from either loading the device driver or seeing my DVD device? Thanks VERY MUCH in advance.
