Hello guys!! Maybe a strange question from me, but is it possible to have a small video playing when Windows XP (Pro XP1) starts up?? Just like with the Windows boot sound, but this time with a smal movie, like for instance a Pentium 4 spot or some movie sample. So the idea is if you start Windows (XP Pro) a short movie plays (any format) on the desktop background or a movie player (which than closed after the movie finished). Anybody any idea's?? If I'm reading your posts correctly, the English language pack is getting forcefully installed onto this PC when you remote in from your English language XP Pro machine. Have you tried, as Takeshi suggested, installing both languages on all PCs involved (or at least installing English onto your girlfriend's laptop) before attempting to connect via Remote Desktop? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No I did not try that yet, but will as soon as possible!! Hi everyone! I have a small network with 3 PC's: 1. My first PC with WinXP Pro (SP1) - English 2. My second PC with WinXP Pro (SP1) - English 3. My girlfriends Laptop with WinMCE - German All connected using a D-Link ADSL Router. My GF's brother also uses her laptop and has it's own account. Now I would like to share some folders on my HD with my GF only, so basically I would like to share a folder and only give my GF access/permission to that folder. Now I turned off 'Simple File Sharing' so I can set the permissions etc. But if I go to the sharing tab of the folder, which I would like to share, go to permissions and say 'add' to add my GF as a user to have permission, I can't find her! If I click 'advanced' to search a user, I can only search on MY PC and NOT on her laptop. How can I add her user-account to the permissions of a shared folder on my PC??? Thx in advance!!

You're right about that! But we thought of this aswell and also tried it with a password like: '007' but that didn't work either. Point is that as soon as a different (English in this case) language is installed next to the German language, she can't login anymore, although when you log on you see the 'DE' (for German language) on the right next to the password box.

Hi everyone! I have a small network setup at home with the following PC's: 1. My first PC with WinXP Pro (SP1) - English 2. My second PC with WinXP Pro (SP1) - English 3. My girlfriends Laptop with WinMCE - German These are all connected using a D-Link ADSL router. Now the problem is that my PC's are configured with English language and international keyboard, but my GF's laptop is configured with German language and German keyboard. Now if I log on to her laptop using Remote Desktop (from my English WinXP Pro to her German WinMCE) and login with her login-data, she CAN'T log back in after I disconnected Remote Desktop. She get's the message that her password is wrong, even after a restart it doesn't work. I have to start her laptop in SafeMode, get in through the Administrator Account (which does NOT have a password) and first of all delete the English language which is suddenly installed (probably because my PC is configured in English and I logged on to her PC using Remote Desktop) and secondly I have to reset her password . Now this is quite disturbing and I believe it should be more easely doable to connect to another PC with a different language using Remote Desktop. Can anybody help me?? Thx!!

Then why does Windows even bother to ask me (as I deleted the account) if I wanted to keep the data or not??

Hi guys!! On my girlfriends Laptop there are two user-accounts, one for herself and one for her brother. The problem now is that sometimes they simply cannot login to their accounts, they definitely use the correct passwords, but Windows MCE gives the error that they are using the wrong password and there is no way to get into Windows. Now sometimes, after a restart it all works again, but at the moment it does not work that simple and they can't get into Windows. Her Laptop is connected to my Router (which connects to the Internet), which has two other PC's connected to it. The Router has 3 of his 4 ports connected: 1. My PC >> Windows XP Pro (English) 2. My second PC >> Windows XP Pro (English) 3. My girlfriends Laptop >> Windows Media Center Edition (Geman) What can be the problem for this login error and how can I solve it and make sure they can ALWAYS log-in??!?!?! Thanks a lot!!

Hi guys! Yesterday evening I was busy with my girlfriends Laptop and had to delete her brothers user-account, but wanted to keep the data. So, I deleted the account and used the option 'keep data' (I am not sure if it is called this way, because it's a german version of Windows). But the problem is now that I can't find the data from the account anywere!! I already made a new account for him with exactly the same name, but still his data is gone! Just after I first deleted his account I checked in the 'Documents and Settings' folder to see if his user-account folder still excisted or not, but it was already gone, so I hoped that Windows put his data in some kind of image-file or something like that, but after restoring his account the data did NOT come back. Is his data really gone or am I doing something wrong?? Is there some kind of way to restore his data?!??! Thanks a lot!! Pete

Those apps will not stop web based pop ups that are sent thru your web client. You need to use a pop up blocker or a Web client like FireFox to do that. You may still have MALware or junkware on your system. Goto you add and remove programs folder and remove anything that is obiviously shady...such a** casino stuff or make cash type of deals. In addition tot hat you probly still have alot of apps starting up with windows that are draining system performance, and may be causing those pop ups your refering to. Check an app out called Hijack This. You can remove things in your start up aswell as remove things that may be hijacking you browser. Be aware, the app is for the computer savy, you can remove things that yu may use, so just pay attention to what u disable, and use the back up feature it has...you can always get things back if you pay attention to what your getting rid of. |Drew| Thx, if the pop-up comes again I will do this! Although I am thinking about a reinstall of my Win XP tomorrow anyway, cause it became a mess anyways.

Yesterday I used both AdAware and Spybot S&D and removed a lot of crap, but today I again got that little pop-up I will try some of the other solutions of you guys later on this evening.

Hi guys! At least once every day I get a pop-up , saying: Your computer is infected with spyware Would you like to remove it? OK CANCEL If I click ok, I get to download some kind of program, but that doesn't solve anything! How can I solve this problem? And what is it anyways? THX!!

Hi! I need to use CDR.exe to open my CD drive, cause I changed my front, so no button on it anymore . But now I have to go to Command Prompt to open the CD drive, because I can't get it to work thru a shortcut. The shortcut has to say: "cdr.exe open E:", but that doesn't work like that. I tried: "C:\Program Files\CDR Open\CDR.exe" "open E:" but that doesn"t work either. How can I get this to work?? Thx, Peter

Hi guys! I have 2 computers with Windows XP Pro. The first one is connected with the internet thru a Sagem ethernet modem (Tiscali in Germany). In that first one is also another ethernet card, that one is connected to my second computer. On the first computer I shared the internet connection, so also on my second computer I have internet. On the first computer I installed Norton Internet Security 2003, my question now is: is my second computer also behind the firewall of my first computer?? Or is it still open to the internet?? But everytime I want to see the pics and delete or change the description it give this error at entering the site: Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a000b' Division by zero /Members/Comment/default.asp, line 161 I already asked on the forum of that site, but nobody else has that problem and nobody knows what it is exactly, me neither Does anybody know what my problem is? Hello everybody, I just wanted to ask what background you use, if you use a background for you Internet Explorer (available with TweakUI)????

As I added some icons to the Icon folder of YzDock I suddenly couldn't use custom icons anymore. If I try Windows XP has to close YzDock because of a problem. I use Windows XP Pro and YzDock 0.8.3 Anybody an idea how to solve this?? P.S. I already deleted YzDock (since a uninstall is not provided) and installed it again, but that didn't solve the problem.

Hello eveyone here in this very interesting forum! I found this forum through gathering.tweakers.net and I love it! I especially like to customize my Windows XP Professional although it unfortunately annoying to do it all over again if you have to reinstall, but I still like it a LOT Peter
