First, how do I turn off using popup blocker sound for IE in SP2? Second, I set the option to have searches look in system folders. I used the registry setting below, but it clearly didn't search them. I unchecked it and rechecked it, and then it searched them. Am I missing something? ;Sets default search options [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer] "SearchSystemDirs"=dword:00000001 "SearchHidden"=dword:00000001 "IncludeSubFolders"=dword:00000001 "CaseSensitive"=dword:00000000 "SearchSlowFiles"=dword:00000000 "EnableAutoTray"=dword:00000000

I am new to this program and I recently downloaded the evaluation copy of VMware workstation. Upon installation, ZoneAlarm popped up two new networks in the 192.168. range, and I am currently on 66.175 network. Is this normal?

unattended Window media player 10 setup?
scorpy replied to Rico.JohnnY's topic in Application Installs
So how would I got about deleting that setup.exe it copies over, or does it remove it automatically because its a temp file? Or can I stick it in a folder like a OEM install and delete the folder in cleanup.cmd? -
unattended Window media player 10 setup?
scorpy replied to Rico.JohnnY's topic in Application Installs
Quick question. I read on MSFN guide that this can be installed via RunOnce, like all my other programs. What I am wondering, is does it have to copy to the hard drive to install? Or can I run it from the CD? Currently it copies over, if I read the command correctly. REG ADD %KEY%\136 /VE /D "Windows Media Player 10" /f REG ADD %KEY%\136 /V 1 /D "%CDROM%\Software\WindowsMediaPlayer\mediaplayer10.exe /q:A /c:\"setup_wm.exe /Q /R:N /DisallowSystemRestore\"" /f -
On a service pack 2 slipstream CD, is it necessary to keep this folder? I have NetFramework SP1 being called from RunOnceEx, and I don't use a tablet PC. It will save 25 MB, and I still need to hack 75 MB off. Dang small CD's and no DVD-burner available. I might just delete the lang folder in I386. I believe that is unneeded as well, so long as it stays in English install.

Update: I just ran the replacer.cmd and added the original file and then the modded file and it worked fine. It actually replaces both anyways for you, so there is no need to manually do this. Thanks for your help!
-
So that script should sufficient then? I just want to be sure before I do something stupid.
-
Ok, I have read kinda how to replace on my current system, but still have questions. I read nolookingca's way, and am unsure of the actual replacer script I need. Basically, after reading the readme, all I could guess was this: ;; ReplacerScript ; Replace tcpip tcpip.sys and throw that in a text file to be dragged onto replacer.cmd. I would, of course, have the tcpip.sys file in that same directory. My question remains, do I need two entries since its in two locations (System32 and ServicePackFiles/I386)?

How did you go about sliptreaming them? I am trying to find the guide they used for it, but not having any luck. Will a generous soul give me a link, so I can be like all the cool kids and have ATI slipstream?
-
Can someone link me to the way to install these? I did a search for 4.8 and 4.9 and didn't come across anything of value. I want SmartGart and Control Panel installed along with the driver. I do intend on having the forceware and Ati on the CD, so installing it all by default is a no-no. Can someone sticky that thread, so all ATI owners can find it easily? This is probably the hardest thing to slipstream! We could use a nice updated guide.

I dont see why you dont just copy all your fonts into the fonts folder (to install them), and then go export that registry key. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Fonts] It does all the work for you, and you just edit out the default fonts. Bam, and your done! No typing required.

Just to clarify, the SP1 is for NetFramework? And I assume the current NetFramework (1.1, not 2.0) from Microsoft's site does not have this integrated in? The less patching I have to do the better, but I will do it if I have to.
-
I have heard mixed reviews about it, and some applications not working on it. Dont remember where I read it, but I would prefer to stick with the tried and true. Service Pack 2 is a big enough risk already

Ok, but I read the first 7 or so pages, and am lost. Thats why I posted this. There is several different methods and I dont know which would specifically accomplish what I wanted. One was for Net1.0, another for a cab version?, another MSI version - which one do I use? Whats wrong with the 23 MB downloadable exe?
-
Ok I attempted to figure this out and I read through the first 7 pages of the other netframe install, and now I am more lost than ever. Here is the situation: I want the menu option to install off CD to work, I might run from RunOnceEx, and I have the SP2 disk from Microsoft. What do I need to do? Because I am unsure if I need the entire contents of that folder, or just the dotnetfx.exe. Please help. It will be on my already slipstreamed CD.

I would be curious Troy. I am trying to install an app, than copy over the updated files into the folder. But the files HAVE to be copied post-install. It will install into Program Files. Should I put the update files in a OEM folder and move them? I was thinking desktop and then move them. I dont know when the OEM gets copied over, so I want to be sure it happens after install. And btw, I am using RunOnceEx method. Thanks!

I remember from another post that a user stated that the deploy tools were not updated in service pack 2. Can I simply download the new one and replace it on the CD? Or will Windows File Protection kick in? And while I am on the subject, can I also replace the tcpip.sys with the hacked one from this forum? Or do I still need to turn off WFP? Because I dont like the thought of leaving my system files unprotected, but I dont want downloads hindered by a crappy tcpip.sys file. What can I do? Lastly, what is concurrent connections? Does it relate to the tcpip hack? Do I need it? I just am curious what its for/does.
-
So that also will work on my currently running system? Assuming I turn off file protection, replace tcpip.sys, and run the reg tweak? But I still dont know what enabling concurrent connections means!
-
So what is the termsrv for? Or concurrent connections? Do I need those?
-
This may sound like a dumb question, but how do I actually use this modded file for a currently install system? I figure I can use it for a slipstream CD? I assume since I use a fileshare program, I want more connections. And is termsrv required to use the tcpip.sys file? I read the instructions, but I dont understand. Do I need to do the expand files and run replacer? Or can I just replace my current one? I dont want to mess up my fresh install! Someone please guide me!

Ok, if I could figure out how to put in my signature I could spec out my current PC. But anyways, it basically is what you said. Athlon Xp2400 512 MB RAM (256 Crucial, 256 Kingston) Chaintech Nforce 2 mobo Radeon 9800 Pro 128 MB But my complaints are: 1. Lack of quality sound from onboard 2. Athlon's seem more laggy in plain Windows tasks than my trusty 667Mhz P3 3. System built on a budget, and caused compatibility issues. I want quality parts 4. I want a faster system! So I definitely like the computer as spec'd with a 17" CRT, but I have that $1200 price range. I will check out that barebones site, it might work out. One thing to note - I will be taking that graphic card for my new box. My siblings have to keep my current build, so I do have to include some sort of low-end card for them. But either way, this is what I currently want without holding back. I just need to find that magic site now. I have settled for sub-par parts for awhile, I need something reliable! P.S. Read some posts at Nforcershq.com forums. They all complain about Soundstorm. It sounds good, when it works. But Nvidia is less than supportive in working drivers to get it to work right. Its too bad, but thats life.

Upgrading isn't out of the question, but my first DIY had some compatibility issues. So my Dad wants to get me a stable system for school. I would love to build one for myself, but I cannot hit the price range he is looking at ($1200), at least through Newegg anyways. My current system will be given to siblings, so I do have to purchase everything. SO I am torn between what to do. Anyone have comments on cooling in a Dell box though? That is my biggest concern. If I do get the new Prescott core, I want it fairly cool in there. Thanks!
-
Ok, since my previous Dell post only pulled 13 views with no replies, I will rephrase the question. I am looking to get: Intel 3.2C processor 512 MB PC3200 RAM Audigy2 ZS 80 GB hard drive monitor, speakers, keyboard, mouse, etc Basically an entire system, all for around $1200. I only found a select few vendors that semi-matched this (Compaq,HP,Dell). I could not get a 3.2C anymore, only the Prescott is available. I would love to build my own rig again, but if I bought all the parts the price is through the roof. I buy most of my parts through Newegg, so I figure their pricing is equal to most. Is there some other vendor or online place I could make this come true? I really want this upgrade, but can't find a match. Please share your wisdom, I could use it. Thanks!
