  1. you can always run SysPrep. That is what we use here. We installed XP on a machine and configured it the way we wanted to and then we ran SysPrep and Ghosted the SysPrep image and we use that to ghost onto our other machines...it works fine!
  2. im guessing that its not possible? Even though I do think it is very weird that I can create and stop a task but I can't delete one...sucks cause I would really like that to work
  3. We are running 2 Vista machines in a Windows 2003 domain environment. We are having issues with the login scripts like everyone else. We think for our scenario that we might have it fixed but we cant seem to figure out this last part. We have the "launchapp.wsf" all created and working. In doing so, this script creates a new task in the task scheduler. This works perfect for admins but doesnt work at all for non-admins. Is it possible to VB into the launchapp.wsf file to tell the task scheduler that once this script has run, to DELETE the task from the scheduler? I don't want it to stop, i want it DELETED. Is there anyway to encode this? Here is the code:
  4. Is it possible to change from pre-installed WinXP Pro license on a Dell to our volume license license? Hey everyone. I have a dumb question that I kind of already know the answer to but I am hoping maybe there is some backdoor way to do it or something. My technician brought a Dell PC to my attention that he built and created Ghost images for and such. He failed to inform me that he never wiped the OS off the machine and install our version of XP Pro with our volume license. So my question is it possible to leave the OS installed on the machine and simply change the key from the one that came with the Dell to our volume license? Any help is appreciated...thanks!
  5. I don't know about you guys but I have used PartionMagic suite more times than I can count for this exact issue and its worked perfectly for me everytime
  6. I take it that there is no such program or fix for that?
  7. Hey everyone. I am curious if this is possible cause I am tired of dealing with how they have our network designed. Is there any way to force all the computers on the network, that once you click any executable files (MSI, EXE etc.), that it will force prompt you for credentials. I thought that A.D. would do it for us with our Admin accounts but it will actually allow us to halfway install software and in some cases completely install software WITHOUT an Admin account. I want to be able to force the credentials prompt on any executable. Is this possible at all? Thanks for any info in advance!
  8. Well...as most of you know, with IE7, the runas command does not work with IE7 anymore. There are numerous "workarounds" out that are long and complex, annoying and don't do exactly what most of us want (know from experience)...but I do have a fix if you would like to run programs/files/folders as another user and or admin. You can do this command from just the command line and it works all the same but this is how to make the shortcut also in case your going to use it a whole lot like me... 1. Create a new shortcut (point it to wherever you like its up to you) 2. Right click new shortcut icon and go to Properties 3. Under shortcut tab, go to "target" and type in the following command C:\WINDOWS\system32\runas.exe /user:(domain\username) "explorer (location of where you would like to go and or run)" So as an example: C:\WINDOWS\system32\runas.exe /user:djohnson "explorer c:\Program Files\Mozilla\firefox.exe" This will launch your Firefox browser as "djohnson" (which in my case is the admin). Also you will see that this uses explorer instead of IE as the launch utility and I did that since I couldn't get IE7 to launch with proper privileges and it is also less of a memory hog to run it as explorer.
  9. well you can do one of 2 things here my man...you can either (if your system is running a Server environment) install the WSUS and let that delegate your updates for you and its the easiest to setup and install....or you need to DITCH the BATCH file and you need to write yourself a VBScript and this way can be quite lengthy and complicated to do. Hope this gives you some insight
  10. worked like a charm...appreciate it a lot!
  11. gonna give this a try and recompile my image...ill let ya know how it goes
  12. Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2 will do it for you as well http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserversystem/virtualserver/ Just make sure you install the administrative website when you do the initial install
  13. good stuff...thanks for that info. That actually does help!!!
  14. Hey guys. I am in an AD environment but I have a weird question. We have a SysPrep image that we use to install our OS's on our machines. Once it is installed, everything runs great but this weird thing happens. If I login to the machine with my standard account (j_johnson)...Windows loads with the Classic theme but when I use my Admin account (j_johnson_ad) it gives me Windows in the Windows XP view. Any ideas what would cause the change in the views? And whats even stranger is when I change the theme...it sticks even after I log off This is what my standard account views in: This is what my admin account views in: Anyone have any ideas? Is this something that SysPrep does or something else. It doesn't do it on any machine EXCEPT the ones that have the SysPrep image on them.
  15. Thanks man! I didn't know about the one in the HKU, I only knew of the other one in HKLM but that did the trick! Thanks a ton for all the help guys! Now I am gonna take IDONTWANTSPAM's idea and put TweakUI on the system. Appreciate it guys!
  16. that was my face too. I have no clue what is the deal with this thing. Its 100% up-to-date, with all hotfixes, WGA authorized and all that fun jazz but I cant get this watermark off the logon screen. Im trying to figure out if someone put a policy or something on this thing that makes it do that on the logon but once you logon it disappears...maybe a previous tech did it or something but I have no clue and I have checked everywhere
  17. Hey everyone...I have inherited this Dell Optiplex GX280. This isnt preventing anything on this system from running but its more of an annoyance to me than anything. I have looked at the Vista watermark removal (user32mui.dll or whatever) fix and that didnt work I have registry edited the Desktop PaintedDesktopVersion change and that did nothing I have registry edited the "HKLM>Software>Microsoft>Windows>WindowsNT" where it holds the watermark info and it did nothing This watermark is ONLY on the logon screen. Once I logon, it disappears. Can someone/anyone tell me where I can find out how to remove this **** thing?
