  1. Hello... I recently bought a new computer with 4GB RAM, Intel Core 2 Quad and was told that Windows XP 32bit cannot recognize all 4GB of the RAM I installed. So I got Windows XP Professional 64bit. I want to nLite Windows XP Professional 64bit so I can install it without it prompting me and me searching all my discs for programs. I have nLited Windows XP Professional 32bit but am unsure of any special requirements to nLite Windows XP 64bit. The computer I want to use to slipstream SP2 etc.. is my Server 2003 32bit. Update pack: 5eraph's post-SP2 Update Pack v2008-11_2 (http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6400) Is there any special requirements, special instructions that I have to follow when nLiting Windows XP Professional 64bit that is different than Windows XP 321bit? Can I slipstream 64bit Windows on my 32bit Server 03? Is there DirectX, .NET Framework, WMP11, IE7 addons for Windows XP 64bit or can I use addons that are for 32bit Windows? Thanks...
  2. THANK YOU Manju!! How could I be so stupid to miss that option..........
  3. Hey everyone! I am having quite a problem with my unattended installation... I have Windowsblinds 6 running from my batch file. I use TaskKillS to terminate all these programs from running (IsoBuster, Live Messenger etc...) I also have ObjectDock and use TaskKillS to terminate Activate.exe. It works on ObjectDock. But, when I silently install WindowsBlinds 6, all these windows appear like the WindowsBlinds configuration screen, activation screen etc... I don't want it to appear as it holds everything else up.... unless I Close it by hand (I left it running in VMWare for 3 hours and then it was stuck there for like an hour until I came and clicked Close) TaskKilling these programs: Activate.exe, WBINST~1.exe, WBCONFIG.exe, WBLOAD.exe right afterward WindowsBlinds Installation doesn't work as it holds the rest of the batch file. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  4. Hello..... I am trying to create a unattended nLited Installation.... containing SP3, IE7, WMP11 and a bunch of programs. On the Unattended - Users tab, I made a password for Administrator, made a new Admin user and gave a password to that, unticked Password Expiration and did not set any autologon. When I test the ISO file in VMWare though.... the following (similar... not exactly the same) screens appear: - http://www.microsoft.com/library/media/103...ome-to-micr.jpg - http://www.microsoft.com/library/media/103...-protect-yo.jpg - Seeing if this computer has an internet connection (which it doesn't) - http://www.microsoft.com/library/media/103...y-to-regist.jpg - http://www.microsoft.com/library/media/103...will-use-th.jpg - http://www.microsoft.com/library/media/103...3-thank-you.jpg So... I was forced to make another user (the wizard makes you make at least 1 user) And to press Next >, Skip etc... So practically.... I am asking how do you skip this wizard without removing OOBE (causes problems with activation and ie7, wmp11)? Any help would be appreciated...
  5. I am not really an expert in this sort of thing but I imagine that it wouldn't really work as you will get into driver/activation issues unless the new computer is the same as the old one. (I know that OEM's use this sort of thing and load the same image to like millions of computers that are the same model) You could try to copy the program from the Program Files (the whole folder) and paste it into the Vista machine and try it. Some programs will work, some will break. (programs that put everything needed to start the program into the program files folder will most likely work, others that put files in the system32 or WINDOWS folder will not work properly)
  6. vLite would make it smaller at the price of getting rid of some components, but sometimes can make your computer faster. Look at http://www.vlite.net/ for details of it. Vista is huge compared to XP and so, I couldn't believe how much HDD it took up when I installed it. But I set my partition for Vista to be about 50GB and it works fine with about 20GB to spare for my stuff. (which to me is not a lot (got a external hdd), but I do video editing of random stuff so to you it might be enough) If you are planning to get a 320GB hdd, I wouldn't suggest installing all these stuff, just what you need to get through until you get the bigger hdd.
  7. Hi desidud! The general rule here is to install the oldest and working all the way to the newest. Don't know why you want five OS's on your computer with only 160GB... But anyway... Don't install 98, it's way too old. You can always install Windows 98 on the free Virtual PC (Microsoft) Make four partitions, your choice in size, format them using FAT or NTFS your choice again, and then install Win2K on C: (the first partition), WinXP on D: (the second partition), Win03 on E: (the third partition) and Vista on F: (the fourth partition). Tip: Boot using the CD, not from the OS itself as I find it more stable if I do it that way I only have two-three OS's in my system (work, games, virtualpc/editing videos), although most people only have one. Just install two/three max and then just set a virtual machine is my suggestion, but you make the decision, one, two, three or four OSes. BTW, always install Linux after Windows, but I am not sure about that fact as I never installed Linux in my actual computer.
  8. Sorry, it's in the wrong section. Didn't see the Application Installs sub forum. If anyone can move it to the right place, that's fine by me. (I can't, I am a newbie here!)
  9. I am having a problem with two of my programs (Articulate QuizMaker and Engage) installing with an unattended switch. I tried this... fron the MSFN Unattended Guide To silently install a package that uses InstallShield, you will have to first create a setup.iss file on a working operating system. Use a test PC if you can. 1. Start the setup application using the -R (case-sensitive) switch from command prompt. Setup.exe -R 2. The setup screens will appear as they normally would, asking you questions as you go along, such as destination directory, etc. It's important that you do not choose the "Restart the computer now" option. If you do, you will terminate your batch when you run an unattended installation. 3. After installation has completed, go to your C:Windows (or C:WINNT) directory and take out the setup.iss file. Put this setup.iss file in the same directory where your application setup.exe file resides in. 4. Start the Silent installation using: start /wait %systemdrive%installApplicationApplication_nameSetup.exe -s 5. Repeat the steps for other setup applications that uses InstallShield. » Installing Installshield Applications from RunOnceEx CD Installshield applications will fail to install when executed from RunOnceEx on CD, unless a log file location is specified. An example of this is shown below, adapt this example for your InstallShield applications (shown in bold): REG ADD %KEY%\045 /VE /D "Kerio Personal Firewall 2.1.5" /f REG ADD %KEY%\045 /V 1 /D "%CDROM%\apps\KPF\Setup.exe -s -f2\"%systemdrive%\kerio.log\"" /f You can then delete the kerio.log file afterwards. It looks like it works, the code executes perfectly fine but when I check if the program has installed or not, it is not there at all, it is like if it hasn't been installed at all. The installer looks like this: pic I followed the instructions above, just replaced the filenames. Can't see why it won't work though? Any help would be appreciated.
  10. I have a problem here... I am running Windows Vista Ultimate (RTM) and whenever I attach any USB drive, the indicator blinks all the time and the cursor just keeps on going on Working In Background. I can access my USB drive with no problems whatsoever. By when I click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon, and click on my USB drive it says that something is using it. Frustrated, I pressed CTRL+ALT+DEL and went on Task Manager. I looked at the Applications list, nothing whatsoever is there. But when I click on the Processes list, wmplayer.exe was taking up about 50-90% of my CPU usage. But, I wasn't on Windows Media Player at all! I 'End Process'ed it and tried removing my USB drive. It ejected fine, the Working In background cursors turns back to normal. Why in the world is wmplayer (which I presume is Windows Media Player) running when I insert a USB drive. Maybe I got this wrong, but what relation does my USB drive with Media Player? I do not store music in there, just random word documents, pdf's and stuff. Currently, my solution is that I end process wmplayer every time I plug in my USB drive and don't play music using Media Player (use iTunes instead). But, it isn't really practical is it? Any help, suggestions to help fix this problem would be appreciated.
  11. Hm.... I got Vista Ultimate and installed Nero 8 (I think full edition), and yes I installed all that bloat 'cause I couldn't be bothered to untick the boxes. I had absolutely no problems with it, using WMP, iTunes, Media Player Classic, all works.
  12. Thanks cluberti. I will hold off most updates until SP1 comes out. I don't want to install everything as there is no need for me to install them (for example: why install firewall software if I am not planning to set a network on that computer) and also I have a 3GB max limit on my broadband every month. One more question... Is there any must have updates that really improve system stability, performance? If there is I would download them for the MS website. When I installed KB938979, it's like 10-20 times faster which is a good thing (might not be in your system, but in mine it did)...
  13. Here is the situation... I recently installed Windows Vista Ultimate onto my new computer. I am not planning it to be connected to the Internet, just for personal use in home. I used to use Autopatcher for getting updates for it but MS took it down. I don't really need any security fixes (who can hack the computer if it's not connected?) but I really need some reliability updates like KB938979 which really boosted up my system. Thanks in advance for any help.
  14. I'm using Windows Vista Ultimate and my computer used to do that with standby and hibernate but I fixed it by disabling "allow this device to wake up the computer" on my wireless mouse and keyboard in Device Manager and it worked although I have to resume my computer using the power button. I know it's not the best solution but it works....
