  1. As I posted in this related link (whats causing the update loop): http://www.msfn.org/board/whats-causing-th...713#entry799713 removing these two services may cause infinite reboots if the roll-back feature of the updates does not work. I sure nuhi will tell us what's changed that now causes these services to be needed for proper windows update functioning. (Maybe MS changed something in the windows update engine??) Take care, Gary
  2. If the infinite loop occurs after installing numerous windows updates, check to see if you removed the ipsec policy agent and windows remote mgt services. I intentionally removed them as previously they were not needed with Vlite v.1.1.6 and did a virtual os install, updated the system with 25 windows updates and the infinite loop occurred. Then I redid my Vista Ultimate iso adding back ipsec policy agent and windows remote management, reinstalled, did the 25 updates and no problems. Interestingly I have the policy agent service disabled in the services configuration section as by default it is set to automatic. I left the windows remote management service left in the default manual setting as it never starts. I guess the operating system either needs the files associated with one or both of these services even if they never run. I didn't go so far with the experiment to see if one of the services could be removed as Vlite v1.2 now says Windows Update needs both. I hope this helps with your problem. Gary
  3. I was having the same problem with KB955302. It wouldn't install & sometimes put the computer in the infinite reboot loop. Did a reinstall last night adding back in the wlan support and no more problems. Hope this helps, Gary Last_Session.ini
  4. Been using vlite for awhile to "chop" Vista down to size. Oscillated between x64 and x86 several times, but due to several compatability issues finally opted for the x86 version. Have vlited Vista Ultimate SP1. Previously with Vista RTM I was able to successfully apply the monthly Windows Updates after the OS was vlited. Now with an MSDN subsription version of Vista Ultimate SP1 that has components removed using VLite, all Windows Updates fail (except the mrt tool). Due to my expermentation with x64 I haven't had the OS on long enough to try Windows Updates since RTM, so backtracking to find out what missing component is causing the failure would be difficult. Manually downloading the failed .msu updates and installing failed as well. Any assistance would be most appeciated, as I would hate to have to run the full version of Vista in order to be able to properly install monthly security updates. Thanks, Gary Last_Session.ini
  5. Nuhi, Reinstalled Vista Ultimate a little while ago using Vlite 1.1 Final and no problem refreshing WEI. Vlite wasn't the problem. I had deleted a *.prx file from \windows folder which caused the problem. Thanks for a great product. Gary
  6. Been working with all the releases of vlite through 1.1RC. Have used it with Vista Ultimate. Only problem is WEI. It does the initial assessment fine and gives me a score, but if I try to refresh it, say, after a driver update, it gives an error and then the score turns from blue to gray and says "Windows Experience Index is unrated". It won't update the \windows\performance\winsat\datastore\*.xml file. I've even tried to run WinSAT from a command prompt using the various documented switches with the same results. I don't think I removed anything that WinSAT needs as it does one assessment fine. And I haven't used TweakVista as I've seen the posts concerning some registry values affecting WEI. I paid extra attention to the last .iso I made and I leave the component dependency check turned on. Any assistance would be most welcome. Thanks, Gary ;^)
