It might be a tad out of date, but I'm going through everything as I have time updating as necessary.

Why run a program to begin with? Microsoft issued a hotfix to stop autoruns long ago anyways.

I stopped as soon as I saw Norton. Uninstall it, run SymNRT, and install a real antivirus like Microsoft Security Essentials.
Also, did you try VirusTotal and see what it had to say?

There's a 30 day trial that lets you see all of the pro features free.

Yeah, log is just fine.
On a sidenote, I hope HijackThis 2.0.5 supports x64.

Totally go with Windows 7.
Also, I added a poll for you too to help get some more ideas.

Give the Anti-Malware Toolkit a try, it has great apps in it to help clean a PC.

It would be worthwhile to run sfc /scannow. You could also use Dial-a-fix since you're on XP.

I tried this on the official IPS forums (the people who make this board) and my own forums as well. When I searched for just javascript the same error was returned.
It's most likely a type of exploit protection built in.

I'd recommend using my Anti-Malware Toolkit to get the apps you need, running scans and posting a HJT log.

I'd completely ditch AVG and switch to avast or MSE. AVG causes too many problems anymore.

Run a scan using the tools in my Anti-Malware Toolkit.

They're just cookies, it's nothing to worry about.

I see no one has addressed the issue of performance and assume it will be dealt with as time goes by. Sometime the forum is quite snappy but most of the time it is painfully slow. I hope that this will be addressed soon. Thanks, John.
That's because we went from 3.0 to 3.1 and the way SEO/SEF urls are have changed some, which is causing more bot/spider activity on the forums which makes them feel slower for now. It will pass in time, as 3.1 performs better than 3.0.

Fast reply is -oddly enough- expanded by default?

Back before the major upgrade, there used to be a button on the editor that would switch between rich text editor and normal editor. Can we have that back please?
Thanks
That was in 2.3.x and I remember a few people asking for it, but there were so many changes going from 2.3 to 3.x that they can't do that anymore.

I don't care for, nor touch or really recommend their products after all the shady things they've done, especially issuing security/SSL certificates to websites with well known malware.

Downgrading from 7 means you'll be even more insecure. Also, Combofix is very dangerous to use. Perhaps you should follow the directions in the pinned thread.

That is seriously so very stupid. If it deletes a critical system file that's all you get to see? Screw that. Sigh, stupid programmers.

Surf all the websites you would typically avoid.
Also look at this topic:

Did you scan in safe mode and normal mode?

Also worth reading so you don't misuse the Hosts file like some sites recommend: http://wiki.lunarsoft.net/wiki/Blocking_Malware_and_Advertisements_Safely

avast or Microsoft Security Essentials are the best freebies, honestly.

Honestly, get rid of both Norton and AVG. Run SymNRT and AVG Uninstaller/Cleanup. Use MSE. You should also try running Malwarebytes StartUpLite.
