  1. Good Morning, Just to let you all know I have managed to sort it all out. I managed to get an Nlite Windows just under 1GB installed so thats fine. Thanks anyway. Regards, Max
  2. Right I have had a good look at the laptop, Firstly here is what the Windows XP Setup reports as harddrives: 3847MB Disk 0 at ID 0 on bus 0 on atapi 7696MB Disk 0 at ID 1 on bus 0 on atapi there are currently partiions and reports there are two un-partioned areas one for each disk. When I opened up the underside I found the 8GB harddrive and when removed its still boots up fine with just the 4GB drive but I cannot find the 4GB physically anywhere. I have been speaking to my collegue who told me to use fdisk first to partition the 8gb but that doesn't even see the 8gb drive. Looks like I am just going to have to put up with this 4gb. I have made a nlite windows and I think its the best I can do and with pagefilling off on the c drive I am hoping that will give me about a 1gb free on C which will have to do. Regards, Max
  3. No Windows is reporting it as two harddrive 0 and 1. I have deleted partions but I can't create one out of two drives. I haven't had a physical look at it yet I will do so at lunch although I haven't actually seen a SSD. The other person is actually my GF :-) I have deleted the partions and recreated both to NTFS and don't understand why Windows is refusing to install on the 8GB. Even if I partion that one first so its Drive C in the Win Setup (booting from CD). I will take a look at lunch inside the netbook and if still no luck going to try the orginal xp disk just to see if it will take the 8gb drive although I doubt it. Regards, Max
  4. Nlite process finished: Total Size: 329.18MB Drivers: 48.34MB Saved Space: 245.02MB
  5. Hmm intresting. Thought it was running a bit high. The only thing is I added the Drivers in using Nlite so they are all installed. The first time I tried to run a couple of Microsoft updates but there wasn't enough space so I reinstalled again and took a look and there was hardly any room (admittidly pagefile was using the last remaining GB) I have just seen someones configurations for another Asus Eee PC so I am copying theirs for now and see how that turns out with my drivers put in. I have added nothing apart from drivers and cut out as much as possible as the end user only wants to web browse and use MS office + Messenger.
  6. Good Morning Everyone, I have got a Netbook here with a SDD harddrive. It actually has two harddrives one being 8GB and the other being 4GB. Now Windows refuses to install on the 8GB saying its not compatible and I have tried everything I can to get it to but it just won't so I have got to install it on the 4GB one. Using Nlite I am trying to get it as small as possible but I am struggling to have any room left on the harddrive once installed. I have got it down to just under 3GB but I really want it at 2Gb so that half the harddrive is left. The person I am installing it for wants to be able to surf the net, Play the 'Card Games' and I will install Office for them using the 8GB partion as well as a few other things. Has anyone got any suggestions or a Session I can look at to get XP that small? Regards, Max
  7. Thanks this just saved me, I was getting really frustrated. I have a Vista Ultimate OEM disc that I have used a few times to create different images and I was in the process of making an image for my laptop that is basically f*d now and from prev times of making images most of it was already correct so made my few changes license code was already in there and I removed all images apart from Ultimate for a smaller disc and when booted from sic there were no images available, Trying to work this out I dedcided to make another one with all images when I boot it was only Home Preimum, I have been trying to work this out and it was really frustrating me so came here about to post a topic when I saw this one so I double checked my license code and it was the Home Premium one from when I did a disc for my sister who is on Home Premium, stupid me, Just making another one now with correct key, lucky I saw it I only have this one disc left, need to buy some more. Thanks.
  8. The thing is I wouldn't be running it on that. I would be running it on roughly 1GB Memory becuase I will be using as much as possible of my two flash drives. I just need to get it installed first though
  9. Hi everyone, Is there anyway I can get Vista installed when I lack about 5MB below the minimum Ram requirements? It is important I have 4GB worth of Flash drives that i am going to use as extended Ram but I can't do that to install vista can I? I have to have at least 512 in normal ram? The reason I am saying this is important is there is a game I need to play, at the moment I have no desktop and no money to get any upgrades/new machines and at the moment the game will not play on the laptop due to lack of memory, 512 is not enough to play it so I thought I I create a real stripped down version of Vista just for what I need to do then use my USB sticks as extended RAM I shold be able to play them game? Correct me if I am wrong. So is their anyway I can get Vista on a machine with not quite enough Ram either by using Flash pens during installation or a hack/workaround? Or is the next version of Vlite going to have this feature and if so how long do you think it will be? Thanks in advance for any response.
  10. Ok Now I have finnally managed to get Vlite to work I went through it but was a bit sad to find the following features not in it: > Can't integrate software to install automaticly, like in Nlite did > Run Once to run dos commands once xp is installed > Have not got a feature to make all your user accounts in the unattended part > Network Settings unattended > The OEM folder to put your own stuff in to install > And tweaking Windows Services, I know its alot and prob can't get all done but I think my main quible would be the Unattended feature think it needs alot more too it and then its a fight between software intregration and run once I think they both draw second at importance. Other then that great app another great job.
  11. Well, I have just succesfully copied the Vista disk clicked on Ultimate and clicked next on the same pc that wasn't working it must be the versio of vista prob didnt copy properly or something. I will work through this copy and tell you if it works or not.
  12. Sorry didnt get to post later, Automatic Updates is turned off on my laptop but it does have a certain amount of updates from ones I have done so I wouldn't say its that out of date. So two computers doing the same thing, both Windows XP Pro SP2 with updates, one has Admin Pack, Tools, is on a Domain File protection Turned off, the other has regular stuff like anti-virus, messenger, office etc with File Protection turned on and prompts me whether I want to replace the modified file or leave i when I install the WIM and Filter Manager I have tried both options. So at a dead point at the moment, I am just trying another disc of Vista, the last one was for a mate who copied the disk and gave it to me so I could give him an un-attended today I am going to try with my nice new OEM Ultimate version and lets see if that works. Coping onto PC now so I'll let you know how it goes.
  13. Yes on this computer not sure aobut my laptop I can find out when I go home as I am about to leave the office. This one is really bizzarr and it would be nice to get it working. I will post later.
  14. Ok thanks for clearing that up
  15. Just wondering does Microsoft permit use of Nlite and Vlite providing the right key is used for the correct machine, only we install machines day in day out over here and what I was going to do was create a custom Disk for 2000 and XP and include as much of teh software as possbile that we install with every machine (things like winzip, pdf creator acrobat reader etc) include the common drivers then make it all unattended apart from the License Key screen Then with all teh computers we just pop this disk in away installation goes, gets to License key we type the correct one in for that machine then away it goes again doing the rest of it I reckon it will cut down the time of reinstalling a machine by about half an hour and make our lifes alot easyier but is it actually legal to do that?
  16. Well I have tried to do it on my laptop and exactly the same happens, thats also running Win XP Pro SP2 but its got a completply different set of software and updates actually hasn't been updated in a long time, just tying to delete the two files then retry see if it works on there
  17. Vista: 6.0.6.16386 32Bit We have Kaspersky on the Server which every hour detects new computers and automaticly installs itself but mine is excluded at the moment and is not installed on mine. Could try it on my laptop and I prob will in a bit.
  18. AHHH HELP ME!!! Ok after some hacking around with a Windows DLL I managed to get File Protection disabled and it now ddoes not replace the file a few seconds after I delete it. So I delete both the files and start Vlite, it promts me to install the First one, ok install, reboot, install the second one, fine lets continue, select my Vista source bang same error, so try again this time I install the first one say no to reboot install second one which says failed, reboot start vlite it asks me again to install second one try again still no luck, ok so tried installing 1st, reboot install 2nd reboot still nothing. What is the exact procedure I need to delete files in what order and install, do I need to delete one install one restart delete the other install the other restart? or is it just my system?
  19. Ok, there is way of turning it off I beleive but I can't remember how. The problem is I jus can't reinstall its a work PC with lots and lots of tools installed plus I would be down while its doing it and people get annoyed.
  20. Ok deleted the two files started up Vlite and it only asked me to install WIM not the other one so decided to restart first so restarted, check the two files again not there so started Vlite again only asked me to install WIM again so ok installed tried restarting Vlite again but just started up fine but same error occurs but the fltMgr.sys returns all by itself without me having to press install or anything. Spooky? Also I do not get asked for Win XP SP2 at any point. Am I doing something wrong?
  21. ok thanks giving it a go now and Yes I am the Domain Adminsitrator. :-) I RULE EVERYONE, well here anyway lol
  22. Hi, I jhave just installed Vlite Beta 1.0 on my newish install of Windows XP that I have had for about a week now, The program loads up fine, I select the location of the 'CLEAN' Vista disk it then copies the files to the PC and asks me which version of Vista I would like to work on, No matter what one I select it instantly comes up with the following message: Mounting Image Error. Did you restart after installing the Filter Manager? Anyway try restarting your computer now and see if that helps, if that does not solve the issue please report. - Code: -2147023504 Well for starters I don't even know what the Filter Manager is is that something within Vlite or is it something extra I have to install? Nlite is working perfectly fine on the same computer or is becuase Nlite and Vlite can't work together? Heres the details of my PC: Windows XP Pro SP2 Build 2600 On a 2000 Server Domain 2GB DDR 1 RAM 3.0GHZ Intel Pentium 4 Processor DVD-/+RW Office 2003 IE6 Up to date with Windows update (just not IE7) 39GB free on my C drive with alot more on my other two drives 2GB Virtual Memory 3.35GB Pagefile Space Any other specs you want to know? Two of my colleagues are wanting Custom Vista disks for themselfs and I told them the final version is not out of Vlite but they are willing to give Beta 1.0 a try as its almost the final but I can't seem to get it running. If I had time I would try it on another XP machine, a 2000 Machine and My 2007 Enterprise Server which I must say I hate it, way to complicated compared to 2003 and 2000 can't get the bloody thing to be a Domain Controller, but anyway thats off topic. Any help appreciated.
  23. Hi, That is exactly what happens when Windows Installer gets corrupt, it can happen in any version of Windows I have experienced it mainly in Windows 2000 as thats mainly what we have at work. If Windows Installer is corrupt, which maybe is possible due to using Vlite then you are stuffed and will need to re-install or re-make your Vlite installation. When Windows Installer corrupts the only way you would be able to fix it is to re-install Windows Installer however to install Windows Installer it uses Windows Installer so you're basicly stuffed when that happens butit is strange how it always seems to say office we get that as well but maybe its just the last thing you installed when it corrupts. Hope this is a bit of help.
  24. Good Evening everyone, I just got my copy of Vista Ultimate. I want to install it on my laptop as that is the only machine I have at the moment still waiting for my new desktop, As my laptop is my only machine and I want to get to learn vista a little better before I start offering support to my customers I kind of need it, however my laptop is not good enough to handle Vist the ram is to low 256MB shared with graphics so comes to just over 200MB of ram. I need to remove the ram limit just as a temporary measure so that I can have a quick play and don't have to wait a couple of months. If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks M.Carpenter
