Thanks Bâshrat the Sneaky, I've found FireTune no problem but FireTweak I can't find anywhere. Where can I find FireTweak? -

I've been searching around the internet for a good tweaks website for firefox and Thunderbird but don't seem to find one I can trust. Does anyone know a good tweaks website, or know some good tweaks, for Firefox and Thunderbird? -
Just a small question, I'm not very conversant when it comes to computers and other electrical equipment and was wondering if anyone might be able to tell me what is the function of a 'DV Input' Thanks

Thanks Tarun, what's your website then? I understand the idea of tweaking something although I'm not that good at that sort of thing, what does ChromEdit mean and where do I get it? -
Is Firefox & Thunderbird better than IE & Outlook?
m8E replied to m8E's topic in Networks and the Internet
When I'm at a particluar website and try to click on something sometimes a message box appears saying 'Redirection limit for this URL exceeded. Unable to load the requested page. This may be caused by cookies that are blocked'. This message box will come up 8 out of 10 times and the page I'm trying to get to will eventually come up if I persist in clicking lots of times on the same thing. No other website I use (using Firefox) does this, and using IE for the same website poses no such problems. Any thoughts on this? I'm also finding that Firefox opens slower than IE. -
Zone Labs have now supplied a solution to the above problems which basically involved removing one file from my hard drive. Amazing! Such an easy solution, but very frustrating and seemingly unfathomable if you don't know! Thanks Zone Labs

thanks Alex75, I'll take a look at that Hey everybody How do a put a website shortcut on my desktop using Firefox? -
thanks trickytwista, I can see where renewing or changing the license can be done in the Product Info tab though those options I don't think are needed here in this case, but whereabouts in the Product Info tab can I register my product? As for being able to register during setup you will notice if you read back in my first post in this thread that I make the point (1) that when I setup my new ZoneAlarm Security Suite product my computer was not configured (and was not) online at that particular time and so I did not initially register the security suite. However, I may try to un-install and re-install to see if it can be done that way.

Can someone help with just one of these problems? I know this may possibly be a UK thing but on the other hand it's a product which ought to work in any country, so if someone can help with even just one of the problems if only in a small way it would be a great beginning

Is Firefox & Thunderbird better than IE & Outlook?

I've not been using Firefox for long but so far I've found that in general Firefox has been running slightly slower than IE, which seems to go against most of what has been said here. The security features which Firefox has are nice and they seem to work well. Also I've not found a way of getting rid of the google bar. -
Recently I bought ZoneAlarm Security Suite version 5.1 in a UK computer store but I'm having trouble registering and receiving updates. It would be easy to say contact Zone Alarm but I have tried this with no response so I'm hoping that I might find some solution here. 1) The security suite has been installed but I did not register it straight away because the computer concerned was not configured to be, and was not, online at that particular time. Would not registering during installation have upset the process of registering online once I managed to get my computer hooked up to the internet? 2) I use Windows XP Pro and I've tried registering ZoneAlarm Security Suite by clicking on "Start", "Programs", "Zone Labs" however there is no "Register" to click onto when I get there so cannot register it in this way. Are there other ways of registering? 3) In the antivirus section of the security suite there is a warning sign and a suggestion to update the antivirus but when I try to update antivirus it does not update, instead a message comes up saying 'failed to connect' yet the computer concerned has now been connected to the internet and is now online. Do I need to register with ZoneAlarm to receive updates? Either way can anyone suggest how I can start getting updates from ZoneAlarm? 4) In the 'Product Info' tab of the security suite it says that registration is "pending", and further to this when I try to use support and update also in the 'Product info' tab a new window opens saying "Your ZoneAlarm Security Suite Subscription has expired" but as yet I have not registered or subscribed to anything. Is it just me or my computer which is confused here? 5) A license key seems to have been provided with the cd rom which I typed into the 'change licence' section of the security suite, replacing the license key which was originally already there but there is no change in registration status have I just lost a year's worth of license accidentally by doing this? As already mentioned I have installed this product and it seems to be working upto a point, but even though I have tried I've not yet been able to Register this product and I've not yet received any license key via email such as Zone Alarm suggest should happen. Is there something that I have done wrong? I have no idea what is going on and do not know if any of the security suite is actually working properly. prathapml, ZoneAlarm Security Suite is something which you have said previously works very well for you and you even suggested to me to use it which as you can tell from the above I have gone out and bought (favouring the idea that it will do a better job than a Norton product and several freeware cleaning products), and so far I don't have too much reason to doubt that ZoneAlarm Security Suite is a good product, however, registering and receiving updates has proved impossible so far especially as I get no response from Zone Alarm. Can such an advocate of ZoneAlarm as you are help? In fact, ANY ZONE ALARM SECURITY SUITE PEOPLE WHO MAY READ THIS HELP!

Is Firefox & Thunderbird better than IE & Outlook?

Something I'm still wanting to find out with Firefox which I mentioned earlier, I'm looking how to put any website shortcut onto my computer desktop using Firefox, with IE I was able to click on "File", "Send" and then "shortcut to desktop" and then a shortcut appears on the desktop but I've not yet found how to put any website shortcut onto my desktop using Firefox. Any ideas? -
Is Firefox & Thunderbird better than IE & Outlook?
m8E replied to m8E's topic in Networks and the Internet
I've just started using Firefox and am getting used to how it works, the tabs are handy yet they are taking a little getting used to because after using IE I forget the tabs are there and keep looking at the bottom of the screen for the other windows however that's just because I'm new to Firefox I guess. One thing I have been looking for on Firefox which was in IE is how to put a shortcut onto the desktop. With IE I could click on "File", "Send" and then "shortcut to desktop" and a shortcut would appear on the desktop, but I've not yet found how to do that with Firefox. Also with Firefox is there any way to get rid of Google search toolbar? -
Is Firefox & Thunderbird better than IE & Outlook?
m8E replied to m8E's topic in Networks and the Internet
After having some troubles and other very annoying computer/internet type bother my hard drive has now been freshly formatted and I've started everything over again, now Firefox works no problem and I'm typing this post using the Firefox browser for the first time. As yet I've not enough experience with Firefox to know just how good it is but so far it seems easy and quick to use. Opera I have downloaded but not yet installed or used, I will see how Firefox gets on for now and maybe introduce Opera a bit later on. I have also downloaded and installed Thunderbird, however in the process of trying to set up an email account with Thunderbird it asks me for my email address, but isn't Thunderbird the email? Doesn't Thunderbird give you the email facility and address? I've not completed the Thunderbird setup yet and am still using OE at the moment, at least I'm trying to use OE at the moment but it doesn't seem to want to send or receive and comes up with the error message: Unable to logon to the server using Secure Password Authentication. Account: 'pop.wanadoo.co.uk', Server: 'pop.wanadoo.co.uk', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR unknown command', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18 so I am email-less at the moment, any ideas what the above error here with OE is? But now back to Thunderbird, in the setup process I'm also asked for my incoming server and my outgoing server but wouldn't these be the same? This is all quite frustrating for someone who has never done any of this sort of thing before! -
Is Firefox & Thunderbird better than IE & Outlook?
m8E replied to m8E's topic in Networks and the Internet
Thanks gamehead200 I didn't know that horsecharles I don't know what my connection settings dialog looks like or what it is even! My ISP is www.wanadoo.co.uk although if I were to select a direct connection like from http://www.bit.net.au/support/firefox_quick.html as you suggested do you think would that alter any agreement between me and my ISP? I realise this is beginning to get off topic here but not for long I hope because I'm trying to get Firefox up and running! -
Is Firefox & Thunderbird better than IE & Outlook?

Guys I don't have a clue about things like proxy servers, networks, or how to configure whatever they are so please be gentle with me! horsecharles, even though I followed those directions on IE to that location I didn't know what to configure or how or what I was looking at when I got there so is there any chance of making things more simple I use 56k dial up connection and I don't know what you mean by what hardware do I use to connect, I use a modem on my computer, is that any help? matrix0978, is that my information you have on that notice below your last post? if it is how did you get it? and how come you can get it when I have no idea where to look! also... what on earth is uBoR kNoWleDgE!!! -
My Norton Firewall has blocked an IP address 0.0.0.0 and reports a "Http_ActivePearl_Overflow Attack" The security threat was at a "Medium" level and when I did a trace on the IP it says: "The IP address 0.0.0.0 belongs to a computer on your local network, therefore there is no public network or domain information" However I'm not on a network, I'm using only a single computer with no other connections to any other computer so I don't understand when it says that the IP address belongs to a computer on my local network, and I don't understand what it means by the IP address of 0.0.0.0 I read somewhere that this problem might be to do with a bug in my Norton Firewall. Has anybody heard of this sort of problem before? and what should I do about this?

Is Firefox & Thunderbird better than IE & Outlook?
m8E replied to m8E's topic in Networks and the Internet
I decided to downloaded Firefox after all the positive posts here and on my first attempt to use it a message box presents me with a message: "The proxy server you have configured could not be found. Please check your proxy settings and try again." How do I check my proxy settings? -
I've just taken a look at that website and attempted a scan but it wants your email address before it will do a scan, how unsecure is that!
-
I'll take a look at that one oofki, does it scan for trojans?
-
I just downloaded and ran that Stinger scanner and not only does it check for virus' but it also for trojans and variants, thanks epic
-
I've had a look at that just now and it's more of a virus scanner than Trojan isn't it? or does it scan trojans too?
-
Thanks epic, I've already tried doing that for Telnet and even though the service is showing up as being disabled the Symantec Security checker still detects it as being open, does something smell wrong there to anyone!? Also I do not have any such service with the name of IIS or Internet Information Services actually showing in services.msc /s so I cannot disable it because it isn't there, does something smell wrong there too?? 65,000 ports in my computer! blimey prathapml I didn't know there were so many, (and now risking sounding totally computer dumb) what does a computer need that many ports for? phiber0ptik thanks for letting me know about that list more firewall tinkering and learning to do now!!

Is Firefox & Thunderbird better than IE & Outlook?
m8E replied to m8E's topic in Networks and the Internet
Wow that's a great response to Firefox! and prathapml that's a 1st class reply! I'm thinking along security lines as a reason for converting, I'm not so interested in lots of *extras* on a browser or email because I like to keep things simple so if Firefox and Thunderbird are much more secure and easier to use then I would consider that a form of upgrade I keep hearing of Opera too, I've yet to investigate Opera but I'm going to look into that, is it a browser only or is it email too? -
I have been having some internet security issues recently and have seen Firefox mentioned with comments that Firefox is much more secure than Internet Explorer. Has anyone got any experience of Firefox either positive or negative which they could help me decide if I should convert? Also, is Thunderbird more secure than Outlook Express? Thanx
