  1. To atomizer - I have czech version. I own up, that I'm not sure, whether I have some componets in my "nlited" WinXP,the hotfixes relate to. Perhaps the utility Belarc Advisor could show me, the hotfixes I need for my "nlited" WinXP. But I hope, nlite will properly remove all "supported" unneeded hotfixes, if I order to remove components of WinXP, these hotfixes relates to. Or not ?
  2. Well, you guess well - really WinXP SP2 - but I don't use Internet Explorer anymore - it was removed about one year ago - just with nlite. So the site of M$ isn't for me available - so I will use a prefabrecated pack, which made some good people, and I will perhaps integrate only critical updates (those should be "supported", or?), to avoid even bigger mess :-) It's true SP2 was a great jump ahead. (more then half of the system is new).
  3. Very nice, I've used Belarc Advisor - it also tells you kritical hotfixes, that you miss. It would be satisfactory for me to know - if I let nlite only integrate "supported" hotfixes (Yuo say - nlite makes it at first, before component removing), than the removing process comes through properly, exactly as if I didn't integrate any hotfix. Btw. is there any list of hotfixes, that are supported by nlite?
  4. Pretty-pretty, if you know what you do. For example - I've just "untwisted" the issue of windows services - useing a little modified settings of Black Viper. (I need just keep only 25 services) But to hotfixes - in my language - there is a forum, where people try to find links to kritical updates and then they made a pack, where shold be they all, but sometimes there are some duplicate (older yet unused hotfixes, that were replaced by newer ones) and I also don't know, if they are all supported by nlite, but it perhaps doesn't matter - You say - I can choose - nlite tells me, if some of them isn't supported and I decide, if I want to let it install during windows installation process.
  5. Someone says - it's better firstly integrate SP2 and hotfixes (by nlite) and then reload and make removals, tweaking, ....
  6. "If everything is removed, what else is left" - sorry - I wanted to say, that nuhi let you by means of nlite to remove ... Does it mean, that the - for example - WindowsXP-KB885250-x86-CSY.exe can be properly integrated (not only instaled during windows instalation), regardless of the characters "CSY" ? I think, windows install firstly the newer hotfixes and then the older - but if some component of windows is missing (removed), then I'm not sure what will become ...
  7. Thanks, "It's even a bigger mess if you choose what you do not need" It means, that nuhi creates his nlite in a way that only removes some files from the instalation, it means there is no way to slice windows properly - - nuhi is just finding files, that can be useing by some aplication or service of windows and let them to remove? I used to think, windows are modular ... So, I have a lot of hotfixes (some Czech pack - cca 80 MB), but I really don't know, what they are parts of (for which part of windows). Btw. - are Czech hotfixes supported by nlite (integrated), or are they only installed during windows installation?
  8. It will also install hotfixes (during the windows install) for parts of Windows, that I've removed by nlite? E. g. - if I remove Windows Media Player - any hotfix for it, wich I'll integrate by nlite will be installed on nonexistent W. M. P. ? It will do a big mess ...
  9. What do you mean by: "New unsupported hotfixes are set to run during the windows install" ?
  10. What if I have some hotfix, which was replaced with some newer, but I don't know it and I let to integrate both with nlite. What will happen?
  11. Is it true, I can integrate only hotfixes, that are currently supported by the used version of nlite, so I heve to wait for the next version of nlite, if I wish to integrate the hotfixes of February? And what about hotfixes, that are localized in my language not in english? Doesn't it matter, if I let nlite to integrate hotfixes, that were replaced with some newer hotfixes?

  13. Is it secure to disyble these 2 services, if I use only Firefox, (I have only the kernel of explorer), I don't use MS outlook nor Outlook Express and all users of my PC are "Administrators", and the login is automatic (without passwords) ?? Thanks
  14. It's easy - just try for example to disable service Help and Support and then try to start Help. To albator - are you really sure, it's no risk to disable this service, if I have Firefox, but the core of IE is still present?: Protected Storage (Black Viper recomands let it on automatic and the Security Accounts Manager too, but for advanced users - disabled) What about if I were the only user on my XP - is there any reason to run the service Security Accounts Manager? other good source for configuration of windos xp : http://mywebpages.comcast.net/SupportCD/OptimizeXP.html
  15. It seems, you understand very well what you are doing. Cryptographic Services - I do use directX, and it also check sign of drivers. DNS Client - attention! - if you disable this, your connection speed may reduce - it resolves and caches DNS names. Protected Storage - it's a novelty for me - really it's only needed if you use Internet Explorer? (not other programs use this? e. g. Firefox, ... ?) P. S. - what about Security Accounts Manager, if all users on my PC are "Administrators"?

  17. It depends on your computer/network configuration, and programs, you will install. If it help you, I can write here my setting of services, or you can fing me on ICQ 310164851, if you aren't scared of my english
  18. Thanks the reason, why I wish install only drivers which I need for my PC is the same as one off the purposes of nlite - to save more space on hard disc, to save time by instalation or for example by defragmentation of system portion. I think, I shouldn't install the newest drivers, because I have got a PC, wich is dated cca to year 2000 (athlon 900, GeForce 2), and with SP2 I've got relativelly new drivers (2004). I think, the drivers, that are in the original CD's of Windows XP (SP2) were tested, to be compatible each other, and I've still had no problems with these drivers - even by using bootvis I didn't reach any more progress The OEM - is it true, in my case, if I have corporate version of WinXP, I should deaktivate the "OEM Preinstall" ?
  19. Thanks, for precising: some websites tell - It's better to avoid changing or removing "printers" (It seems, the setting, or drivers, or support of printers is something special ?) And still the "unhappy" OEM What does really happen, if I choose it, or if I don't choose it? Is it true, it will create only a folder in the instalation called $OEM$ - and there will be nothing, if I have no add ons, or unsigned drivers, or WHAT? And last but not least - drivers extracting - I have an idea - it would be possible to find all the installed, signed inf files by using the MS program System Information, which is currently in windows (but it can't run, if the service Help and Support is disabled!), and find (manually) all these *.in_ files on WinXP SP2 CD, and decompress them and also the CABs (to obtain all the drivers) just in one folder and the *.inf files, that I need for my devices to integrate into nlite, and ALL OTHER DRIVERS TO REMOVE (with the aid of nlite) ... apologize for my english
  20. It's something like the RyanVM's Windows XP Post-SP2 Update Pack, but in Czech. I've seen a lot of czech flags in this forum, so I've thought, it's can be useful for someone.
  22. I've downloaded nVidia forceware, I've decompressed them. Is there any way to install the drivers without the nVidia control panel - just only the drivers, like those in default winXP, or can I integrate into nlite them - only the drivers?
  23. 1) Is there any reason to let the last access update in NTFS switched on? (better defragmentation, or ?) 2) Can I integrate drivers into nlite - the drivers which I have extracted from windows xp, using e. g. Driver Genius? 3) Some websites, where are tutorials for nlite, recommend not to remove some parts of windows - printers and ethernet DHCP - is it really good advice? 4) The greatist issue - OEM Preinstall - if someone has corporate version of winXP - should he switch off this? Thank you all

    Tweaks in nLite
