  1. Taking those statements into account I would say more than 2GB will definitely be of benefit to him, especially if he's using VMware and VS2005 at the same time (and if he's like me, listening to some music while he works). Virtual instances are great for development environments, and running multiple VM's with different configurations is nice to have as well. That's hard to do if you're RAM limited.

Yes i listen to music while i work, i only use one vmware one at a time though, 2 VM's at a time is not possible for me at the moment

I've chosen to buy an AMD 4600+ first

  2. i prefer to keep my pc2700 and get another 1 rather than get 2 new pc3200, cheaper. just have 2gb total is good enough for me cos my vista ram usage is like 80% lol but would i notice a speed difference

hopefully gonna get a amd 4600+ too :D

  3. im planning on getting a dualcore aswell, but my ram currently is PC2700 which means the 3200 would run slower, wont it?

    already got latest bios update

also i might just get another 1gb stick so ill have 2x 1gb in dual channel

  4. Do you mean the screen where it asks you to find a certain file for a driver if it is missing?

Also, ive done the same as nuhi but removed everything except NETLOGON and windows installed/worked fine

Printscreens/Screenshots would be very useful :)

  5. it says on my motherboard manufactuere website and i quote....

Due to the South Bridge resource deployment, the system density will only be detected up to 3+ GB (not full 4GB) when each DIMM is installed with an 1GB memory module
  6. already got a good bargain (£30 for 3 1gb sticks). i think i need more than 2 gb cos i also use my computer for programming (Visual Studio 2005), music and web browsing, VMWare, some games too...

is dual channel set in BIOS?

  7. Hi i have currently got windows vista x64 utlimate on my computer with 1GB RAM, i was wondering what benefits i would get if i chose to upgrade to 4gb ram n would i notice a big difference lol? more detail the better

My current ram is crucial 1 GB PC2700 DDR RAM (ct12864z335) and plannining on buying 3 more

Mobo: MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum - Supports Dual Channel

AMD 3000+ (Planning on upgrading to a dualcore)

Also got the patch which fixes 3GB+

    Thanks in advance

  8. If you're using that preactivated illegal Vista then don't.

legolash2o, ever occured to you that you might be using not allowed chars. I gotta add checkups for those, let me know if you find out which was in your case.

its retail from ebuyer so no not illegal, i prefer the real thing with covers, manuals, etc.. most importantly waranty :P

My password was just numbers and i just manually enterned 50 in autologon but i actually wanted infinity, is it possible i could of accidently hit space bar after 50? lol

  9. mm...well other than the 3rd reboot..and the AV I guess I'm pretty much out of luck eh? I could try to disable them and see if that helps..

it says try disabling all AntiViruses and Firewalls, i know windows firewall is safe to leave enabled

  10. well thats my problem then..the 1st reboot takes perhaps maybe 1-2 minutes...2nd one takes maybe the same amount of time..it just says installing sp1 service pack..maybe on screen for 30-1 minute and then it done. On the 3rd reboot it stays abit longer but the point is nothing is more than 2 minutes tops..and when it finishes it gives me that error along with it failing. Can I do anything to fix that about the packages not installing correctly? I have nothing else left to install in WU.

I even deleted the systemdistrib folder that they said it might solve it..by stopping and starting bits up again etc.

a wesbite said that error code can be caused by antivirus software or stuff like that

Your problem will most probably be on the 3rd reboot

  11. System Restore

    Volume Shadow Copy

    Windows firewall

    Internet Connection Sharing

are the ones i managed to find.. there is another one which i havent located yet and have decided not to due to the problems it causes. The list above can be removed and sp1 will still install

yes reboots 3 times, first one should take about 10 mins, second one is the main sp1 files which takes longer, 3rd about another 10 mins but these depends on your computer spec.

  12. well I have my system running pretty nice now with alot of things installled so I'd rather not have to format and install an intergrated copy ...I have the iso already though. Thats why I asked if anything could be with that error so it can install..since I don't really want to lose anything I have atm

you got a preset for the vista install with the error?

  13. so I'm screwed without installing sp1 intergrated then? theres no way to fix my error?

pretty much everything you remove using vlite comes back after sp1 install but they are really buggy and some stuff dont even work... the good thing is that vista works really fast

for example you if remove sidebar with vlite, sp1 puts a shortcut back on your start menu which doesnt work, security center has problems, adds invalid entries in control panel, i think BlakByte is having problems with his nvidia control panel not saving his color settings after reboot (im not sure if that SP1 related though but he made it sound as if it was something new to him), theres quite abit more and its too much hard work... so its best to integrate it

With the security center issue you can just delete the security center files and its fixed :P

you can alwaays read this topic here to try and integrate it yourself and use vlite after it :)

  14. Ok ive ended my search! It best to integrate and NOT install manually.

I had invalid links, etc... and Blakbyte managed to install it fine on a physical computer and he also had invalid links but nothing major though.

Best to wait for next vlite release, but BlakByte thinks SP1 runs alot faster! :D

  15. Hi,

can u tell me where i can get your fix ? and can we do it during the unattended installation of vista ? if not can we get the file and know where to put it to do unattended fix ?

    thank in advance :)

Click the download button on the first post, on vlite you can choose to keep "windows\system32\wer.dll" & "windows\system32\faultrep.dll", the files comes with my program so you can also manually copy them yourself.

The picture below is abit of proof that it worked. Right is from my results, left is BlakBytes results...

  17. i having problems with auto-logon, i put in my administrator password and set auto logon to 50 (which is probably the problem) and when install finished it says cannot parse c:\windows\panther\unattended.xml and it is invalid, rebooted, displayed the error again, rebooted and keeps doing it.

  18. So far you need to keep...

    System Restore

    Volume Shadow Copy

    Windows firewall

    Internet Connection Sharing

Still Testing, im going to put a list up maybe later on today to show what is safe to remove so far

BlakByte has decided to help :D Thanks, much appreciated

  19. just started testing again, as ive been trying to get my program finished n released. but anyways im going to be testin fully, like remove components > fully install SP1 so i know its going to 100% work.

If you have got VMware then please feel free to help, but make sure you fully install SP1 on it so you know their safe to remove, let me know if your testing this too.
