  1. I searched around on Google and came up with a fix for this, as others have had the same problem. the cure was a program called unlocker, its the only thing that would work!
  2. Hi, Hope someone can help me. I've got an empty folder on my HDD that I can't make any changes to, add any files to or changes the settings for in anyway! When I try to delete it I get the message "This is no longer located in C:\Users....etc. Verify the item's location and try again" I was downloading from an FTP and the download failed, leaving me with this useless empty folder. The folder size is 0 bytes. I can't change any security settings because it says "The requested security information is either unavailable or can't be displayed". Attributes are not set to read-only or hidden. I can't delete this folder in safe mode so how do i remove it??
  3. Thats not the problem, if i have NTSC i make an NTSC DVD same for PAL i still have the same problem in Vista good thing i've still got XP on my laptop as i'd be screwed!
  4. Strange I just changed the desktop background to "Windows DreamScene Content" and it worked 1st time for me.
  5. All of Microsofts LifeCam range work with Vista. LifeCam I'm using a the LifeCam VX-1000 which cost me around £12 and it works fine.
  6. Thanks for your reply, I've got the icon files I just can't replace the standard drive icon with them. They are in .ico files and I've tried changing them to .dll but that didn't work I tried the link you posted but that had no effect at all, but my VAIO is an old model (PCV-RZ422P) that i've upgraded over the last couple of years.
  7. Tried all your files and i get he exact same result
  8. Thanks for the reply, I tried installing the codecs all individualy in the begining and then I used the codec pack thinking that might be the cure, but that didn't help. The video is playing out of sync in Nero and the DVD output is out of sync too. This happens from the very beginning of the video and stays the same throughout with all the XviD's i've tried. The thing I can't understand is the video plays perfect in all the other players i've tried I'll try using the links you've posted and see if i get a better result...
  9. I installed Nero 7 Premium v7.7.5.1 its working ok for me. The only problem I have is I can't convert XviD to DVD using Nero Vision 4, because it goes out of sync. The same file plays fine in WMP11 or PowerDVD, but if i play the same file in Nero Showtime or Nero Vision its way out of sync! I've got the Vista Codec Package v4.2.5 installed so i don't think its a codec problem, any ideas??
  10. I installed Nero 7 Premium v 7.5.9.1 then upgraded to 7.7.5.1 its working ok for me (infact better than XP). The only problem I have is I can't convert XviD to DVD in Nero Vision, because it goes out of sync. The same file plays fine in Windows Media Player, but if i play the same file in Nero Showtime or Nero Vision its way out of sync! Any ideas??
  11. Nobody knows how to do this in the registry? This is what i've tried so far... Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons] [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\I] [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\I\DefaultIcon] @="C:\\Icons\\MS.ico" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\I\DefaultLabel] @="MemoryStick" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\J] [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\J\DefaultIcon] @="C:\\Icons\\SM.ico" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\J\DefaultLabel] @="SmartMedia" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\K] [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\K\DefaultIcon] @="C:\\Icons\\CF.ico" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\K\DefaultLabel] @="CompactFlash" Changed it a little bit from the WinXP reg entries but it must be a simple task but i just can't work it out Any help would be great
  12. I left my PC on all night and today it appears to have calmed down a lot!
  13. Can you tell me how you switched this off? the help files just says... "Can I turn the Windows search index on or off? No, the index can't be turned off or paused. The Windows search index improves the efficiency of your searches by keeping track of file names and important file properties for most of the files stored on your computer. The index is what makes it possible for searches to take just a few seconds instead of several minutes. The index is always on because it is essential for fast searches. When the index is running, it generally won't affect your computer's performance. When you make changes to files, however, the index quickly updates those changes, momentarily putting a small additional load on your computer's resources."
  14. Hi! Hope somebody here can help with this problem i'm having... just installed Vista on my Vaio and I want to change the icons for the removable drives (MemoryStick, CompactFlash & SmartMedia). I've managed to change the drive names using regedit but it doesn't work when i try to set the default icon! Any ideas??
