  1. What difference should these two paramters make? Thanks Paul
  2. Yes - I am using the latest version for Winpe of the deploy tool. It's a real shame this is happening - perhaps I will have to upgrade to Ghost?!?!
  3. OK - 2 seperate hard disks no resizing going on - thats is done with sysprep POST image restore its a straight restore, image created with HIGH compression The same image is quicker to restore in dos rather than winpe
  4. but can't effect disk to disk speed though!
  5. The scripts are pretty boring and are lifted straight out of the menu. SO for instance, we have an image on one partition for restore purposes and then a restore script which is along the lines of select partition 2 delete select freespace first restore All of the scripts are lifted from examples that come in the manual with Deploycentre Toolkit. 6. Jotnar, Thanks for the reply. The compression is the same as I used before. The network driver on this machine is the driver from HP, added in to the WinPE distribution using the drvinst.exe tool (broadcom 10/100 adaptor in an HP DC7100\HP DC530) Do you know where I can get the GUI you speak of, as Powerquest have now been bought by Symantec, it is very hard to get anything out of them.
  7. Chaps\chapesses, I have the latest version of Winpe from Microsoft and deploycentre library from the now sold powerquest. there is a winpe imaging tool in powerquest called PQIDeploy. I have put this in to winpe and created some scripts and all looks good. The strange thing is that it seems to take longer to image the 1st hd to the 2nd hd or from the hd to a network drive, than it did using the old version of pQIDeploy which ran in DOS!!! I thought the winpe version would be quicker as it has teh 32bit drivers loaded for disk access.. Has anyone else got any idea's on how to speed this up a bit, or has anyone else seen this at all? Many thanks in advance, Paul
  8. Nope. You cant do it. WinPE does NOT accept incoming connections, hence you cant use it as a server in any way. HTH Paul
  9. Currently we have a project underway to update our desktop fleet of 10k machines from win2k to winxp. Has anyone else here done this? The technical aspect of the project is fine, but we want to deliver something that looks revolutionary to the end user, something that WILL improve the user experience.. Anyone got any idea's. no matter how radical?? Thanks Paul B)
  10. thanks for the advice. I basically figured it out and then saw your post. Thanks for the hints :-)
  11. **Not sure if this should have gone in the WInpe forum, so apologies if this needs to be moved** So far I have: created a winpe 1.5 cd with HTA, WMI and WSH support. I have mapped a drive to a win2k distribution share. the problems i have are the following: (A) When I use diskpart to create two partitions on the disk, I still need to restart the machine before I can use them. I thought winpe gets rid of this limitation? (B) When I run winnt32.exe /unattend:filename.txt /s:z:\i386 /copyfile:LANG setup starts. However, it complains that it cannot reboot the machine and I have to do this manually. I want a win2k unattended installation launched from Winpe1.5 Dont know if it matters, but the PC is an HP DC7100 with 80GB SATA Drive. Any help or thoughts on why I have these problems? Thanks Paul
  12. Does anyone have any example code for running java apps on the desktop (Active Desktop). I wanted to write something that can put data from websites on to your desktop and update at certain times automatically. Im new to java - and active desktop coding Any examples or links would be really appreciated. Thnx P B)
  13. I had that once before - it turned out to be a faulty nic.
  14. Can anyone confirm for me please: (A) I have windows 2000 with SP4 slipstreamed in. What version of MSXML is included? (B)I have Windows 2000 SP2 and install SP4 by running the update.exe file. What version of MSXML do I have installed? I want to know what versions are installed and whether they are the same. I know that you can have multiple versions of MSXML on the same machine, but what versions would the above scenarios put on the machine? Thanks PAul
  15. Well, I can't believe that there is no way of doing this - it MUST be possible because WindowsBlinds exists... Does anyone out there know how to get a list of the API names from the uxtheme, user etc etc dll files.. that would be a great help. I need to figure out the syntax to these calls and then I can get it working.. So far, I have a form in vb6 that when you check a tickbox it enables or disables the current WINDOWS theme !! :-0 (works with Luna anyway).. Picking one , loading it and setting it however is a nightmare! Does anyone have any idea's??? I cant believe Ive come this far with it and cant get any further down the road...
  16. OK. I know that the API that I need to use is setCurrentTheme , but where can I find syntax for this? I have googled and looked on technet but I haven't found a thing out!! Any idea's???
  17. The problem is that sendkeys sucks - it can be interupted by the user and you see what is happening on the screen. I want it to be a seamless change for the user
