  1. You're right joe tweaker. Not being of the computer generation, a non techie, I just want a fully patched Win98SE OS, with everything current, not left in the July 2006 state. That's why I feel much better with AutoPatcher installed. I use many of these other tools but at my choice.
  2. I think this is the wrong place to put this question. I have put it in the RP7 section. Thanks.
  3. I have RP7 on my Win98SE computer, everything has been working except that when I now open a folder, (forgive me for the non techie explanation) only the icons are visible not the section on the left 25% which shows the folder name, plus what each icon is when I highlight it. How can I get this Web Style functionality, I think, back? Please make your reply easy to follow. Thanks.
  4. Please forgive me folks. The above note is wrong. The uninstall icon "rpuni.exe I refer to will not uninstall RP7. Soporific is working on the fix for us individually. I have no problem RP7 is working great, just want the uninstall as a precaution. Again, forgive me. Thanks.
  5. Relax Soporific. I found the uninstaller for RP7. When you click on the RevPack folder in Manual Installs, you then get a the folder "revpack", click on that folder you get an icon saying "7Z - RP7MM", click then extract (it tells you where), there are all the icons for RP7 including "rpuni", plus a much better installer "SetupRP" than the "revpack" installer you see before extracting the "7Z - RP7MM" file. Since my install went perfectly from the "revpack" installer, I will leave well enough alone, not uninstall RP7, then use the "SetupRP" file to re-install (it is a bit too much for me). I hope I am right about all this, hope this helps you out. Ken.
  6. Forget to mention that I have both AutoPatcher + Revolutions Pack 7 on my computer.
  7. I just went to the Toyota.com site with Firefox 2.0.0.8 + the same Flash Player, you guys are using, no problem, perfect connection, although I had the same problem on Paltalk but just with an opening advertisement which is fine because the advertising intrusion is bothersome.
  8. Thanks Soporific. I was able to extract the main RP7 file with 7Zip, but none of the files say uninstall on them so how can I , as a non techie, perform an uninstall, if necessary. Ken.
  9. Soporific. I just installed the Revolution Pack 7 from the Manual Install folder in AutoPatcher, just like re-inventing 98SE, but can't seem to locate the install folder for RP7, just where is it? Also, even after clicking "Show System Components" in A/R, I still cannot seem to locate the listing for RP7, where is it, just in case I have to uninstall RP7 for some reason. Thanks, Ken.
  10. Thanks again Soporific. Just a suggestion from this non techie, not of the computer generation. After installing AutoPatcher for Win98SE + the September/07 update + cleaning up my computer files (defrag, scanning for viruses, cleaning up the registry), to make sure that I maintain my entire Win98SE in tact, I made an ISO image of my"C" drive (took 9 cd) with Norton Ghost 2002, so if I have to format my "C" drive for any reason, I can just copy my Win98SE ISO back to my "C" drive, without having to re-install anything, just carry on as if nothing went wrong. Now I think I can relax + wait for your further updates Soporific. As with the others, I congratulate your efforts. Thanks again, Ken.
  11. Soporific, just a final point of clarification. Will you continue to supply updates to the main AutoPatcher for Win98SE software? I am current as of now. Are these updates monthly or just when new material becomes available? I just completed the task of burning an ISO image of my "C" drive using Norton Ghost, WHAT A RELIEF that everything is there, safe. Again thank you for your brilliant contribution to the continual use of Win98SE. With much appreciation, Ken.
  12. Thanks Soporific. The main + update installs went perfectly. My next step is to Norton Ghost my "C" drive again with your complete package intact. It was quite revealing just how much was missing on my Win98SE configuration. A Network Status icon (two flashing monitors) has shown up in the systray near the clock which I can't seem to remove (like to keep that section simple), originating from C:\Windows\System\iptest.exe, also shows up in "Start", "Accessories", "System Tools". Is there some easy way of removing this icon? Again, Thanks very much for your invaluable contribution to us non-techie Win98SE users.
  13. I currently have the Unofficial Win98 SE Service Pack 2.0.1 on my computer. Shall I then further install the Auto Patcher for Win98SE? If so, shall I first install the large 248 mb August/07 main file, then the Sept/07 upgrade? If I attempt the large install, are the instructions easy to follow? I am not of the computer generation so please make your reply easy to follow. Thanks.
  14. More ram is always useful especially for serious photo editing, running live cd Linux distros, performing more than one computing function at the same time. Together with a larger video capacity (including graphic acceleration 3D functionality), my computer will run even more efficiently ( also many games require more than 8 megs of 3D video). The maximum CPU, I can use on my system is 1.1 gig, might just get that cheaply to compliment the video + ram. Just investigating these possibilities.
  15. I am so happy to find a forum where people continue to use Win98SE. I am not of the computer generation, self taught with trial/error, become fairly comfortable, proficient with Win98SE. I have also installed the Unofficial Win98SE Service Pack. I agree with so much of what others have written about the positives in sticking with Win98SE. Just a couple of other thoughts. To fully protect my current Win98SE installation, about every six months, I use Norton Ghost to completely "ghost" my "C" drive on a number of CD-R's, this time probably about 8-10 cd-r's. The benefit of Norton Ghost, for those, unfamiliar, is that if you have to format your "C" drive, you can just copy back your entire "C" drive completely installed, just continue using your computer as though you never had to format your "C" drive. The other way, of course, is having to re-install Win98SE plus all your other software. A great comfort!! Also, with experience, I have equipped my computer with a number of free software programs, that make formating the "c" drive almost a non-existent scenario. I use the following: Firefox (default browser) AVG Free 7.5 anti-virus (the newest version) AdAware Free Spyware Blaster Free (prevents spyware from getting on your computer) CCleaner (essential, complete cleanup tool) HiJack This MRU Blaster RegSeeker Using all these excellent free softwares on a regular basis has kept my P3 600, 256megs, ultra lite cable internet computer clean, running at peak efficiency. (I hope to upgrade my ram to 512, my video from 8 to 32 megs, perhaps get a faster CPU as well). I have also just begun using Oxygen Office Professional 2.0.4 (a much more complete version of Open Office.org) as my Free Office program. The Gimp for Windows is my free (almost Photoshop equivalent) photo editing software. As an extra, I am also experimenting with Puppy Linux, a live cd linux operating system which loads into the computer ram, never has to be installed to the "c" drive, with the capability of saving settings after each use, built especially to configure hardware for legacy computers like mine running an OS like Win98SE. If your computer "C" drive becomes so corrupt as to make access of saving impossible, Puppy Linux can always run from the cd player, access the "C" drive that way, use your burner to save vital information. Both OS's compliment each other. Thanks for your patience. I hope to view this forum regularly, use your suggestions.
  16. Hi. Just joined the forum. I am about 50 miles north of Toronto, have been a Win98SE user for about 5 years on a P3 600, 256 megs, ultra lite cable internet, Firefox, Oxygen Office Professional 2.0.4. I am so happy to locate a forum for those who want to continue to use, what I feel, is the top MS OS. I am not of the computer generation so Win 98SE fits my computing requirements to a tee!! Hope to contribute to the forum.
