  1. you could try using BDD2007, its a great way to deploy your desktops http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb490308.aspx
  2. I want to allow domain users to install software and updates without making them local or domain admin? I've been through group policy so many times and I can't see a policy that would allow the users to install, hopefully I've just missed it. Simple as that really, just getting bored of applying patches and stuff.....

I'm running a simple script with CMAK (Connection Manager Administration Kit) to check/make a registery change pre-connection, but during runtime %username% returns as NULL %systemroot%\system32\cscript.exe "%systemdrive%\documents and settings\%username%\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\connections\cm\rdrukvpn\vpn_reg.vbs" ERROR MESSAGE "C:\documents and settings\NULL\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\connections\cm\rdrukvpn\kb311218.vbs" Was not found When i manually run this script within a DOS prompt or from RUN, its fine. Also it makes not difference whether its run as a cscript or wscript, still the same error. any one know why it would return NULL? Thanks

  9. found a work around, saying that i was suck with it..... i never believe that poo poo. In order to do this, you need to open up the client (manually, not specifiying .rdp file) and connect to your XP Pro machine using the same computer name stored in your .rdp file. When prompted for your credentials, enter them exactly as you would if you were entering them on your XP Pro machine, and check the save password box. After you have successfully connected, disconnect from your XP Pro/2003 Server machine. Open up the client again, make sure the computer name is still set to your XP Pro/2003 Server machine as used above, and then click the edit credentials hyperlink. The credentials screen should have your username as entered above, with the password box blank. Click the OK button to save your credentials, do *not* enter a password in the box. Uncheck "Always ask for credentials". Optionally set all of your connection preferences and then click the Save As button and over default.rdp file for this connection. Click the Connect button. This time it should connect to your XP Pro/2003 Server machine, but stop at the Log On to Windows screen with the user name field pre-filled and the password blank. Username and password are no longer stored in the .rdp file. Please let me know if you have any questions.
  10. since the update this has happen on all my xp and 2003 machines and its very annoying. There must be a registry key or a group policy that could set it back
