  1. A software firewalls primary duty is controlling traffic, not keeping malware off of your system. If a software firewall is detecting unexpected outbound traffic, then the rest of the security package or the user has failed to protect the system. Hardware firewalls which includes routers, and software firewalls fill different roles. Hardware firewalls can only control traffic on a global level. A software firewall can control traffic for individual applications. Some call that being a control freak. I call internet access control a necessary part of my security policy.

    Agreed.....

  2. I would suggest blacklisting this firewall. Apparently PCtools has blacklisted a number of DVD backup tools including DVDShrink. It locks up Win XP forcing a hard reset and has a tendency to corrupt the MBR. You can run these DVD backup tools if you first add them to the trusted list before running them but if you don't you may end up reloading your software. 1st firewall I've used that does this.

    No knock on JD.

  3. Someone asked me recently to repair a crashed HP Pavilion 533w which uses one of the Intel chipsets listed below (I don't remember which). I couldn't load the drivers via the normal driver method in nLite so I had to create silent installers that load later at T-13 (which worked surprisingly):

    Intel® 440BX AGPset

    Intel® 440DX AGPset

    Intel® 440EX AGPset

    Intel® 440GX AGPset

    Intel® 440LX AGPset

    Intel® 440ZX AGPset

    Intel® 440MX Chipset

    Intel® 430TX PCIset

    Intel® 810 Chipset

    Intel® 810E Chipset

    Intel® 810E2 Chipset

    Intel® 815 Chipset

    Intel® 815E Chipset

    Intel® 815EM Chipset

    Intel® 815EP Chipset

    Intel® 815P Chipset

    Intel® 815G Chipset

    Intel® 815EG Chipset

    Intel® 820 Chipset

    Intel® 820E Chipset

    Intel® 830M Chipset

    Intel® 830MG Chipset

    Intel® 830MP Chipset

    Intel® 840 Chipset

    Intel® 845 Chipset

    Intel® 845E Chipset

    Intel® 845G Chipset

    Intel® 845GE Chipset

    Intel® 845GL Chipset

    Intel® 845GV Chipset

    Intel® 845MP Chipset

    Intel® 845MZ Chipset

    Intel® 845PE Chipset

    Intel® 850 Chipset

    Intel® 850E Chipset

    Intel® 860 Chipset

    Intel® E7500 Chipset

In this case I made an audio, chipset and video driver silent addon that worked. The network used stock WinXP drivers.

  4. Thanks for ur post, i reallly apprecite ur post. But can u or anybody help me to create SENSIVA 2.0 as nlite addon. Reply.

I couldn't download it anywhere to tell you.

You may find the silent switches yourself by Start/Run/Filename.xxx /? or /h or download CMENU 2.6.0.88 (Context Menu Enhancement) which can identify a lot of installers with a right click and give you the switches.

  5. Shouldn't be a problem then.

One thing to add. I have 3 different nVidia video cards so I had to go to the nVidia website to find the latest driver that supported all 3 video cards (6800, Ti4800 and 7600GT) to avoid adding more than one video driver which may not work right . For whatever reason some nVidia drivers left out some of the cards. I ended up finding one driver in their archives that supported all 3 cards.

    good luck

  6. Works for me, I tried it with drivers for 3 different motherboards on 3 different computers. nForce4, nForce3 and SiS 755. Problem is it will need 3 different activations from the same Product Key unless you have Corporate XP.
