  1. I'm trying to learn how to use batch files in my Windows installs for the first time (and there's a lot to take in). I've been reading through all the MSFN Unattended Windows resource pages for instructions on how to correctly use this feature. On the MSFN instruction page for cmdlines.txt (http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/web/14/) I noticed that all the paths are stated using unix style forward slashes. Is this how paths are meant to be stated in the cmdlines.txt file? and if so, why? Or are they just (a whole bunch of) typos?
  2. Is there a winnt.sif setting that allows you to specify the the name of the "My Documents" folder? (and which section should this setting go under in the .sif file?) I'm sure I saw somehere (ages ago) that it was something like PersonalDir, but doing a web search on this particular term has turned up very little.
  3. I have a question about WinRAR's shell extension context menu. I have both Winzip (v8.1) and WinRAR (v3.51) installed on my system (yeah, don't ask!) and I have the Explorer shell integration for both apps switched on. So far so good. But I have noticed that WinRAR also adds a menu to the context menu of the Start Button (which is both irritating and pointless, as you're hardly likely to RAR your Start Menu). Winzip on the other hand, does not add a context menu to the Start button despite it having the same level of shell integration as WinRAR. Does anyone know how I can get rid of the WinRAR menu from the Start button context menu only (while leaving other WinRAR context menus in tact)? It's not a huge deal, but I've been trying to solve this problem for quite some time with no success. I've looked at the registry entries for "Folder" and "Directory" but this was of no help as the registry entries for both apps were present in both places. So, I still can't determine what Winzip and WinRAR are doing differently (resulting in only WinRAR appearing on the Start button).
  4. OK, I've found the problem! (and I thought I'd post here in case anyone else has a similar problem in the future). The Windows Setup error message was totally misleading because it referred to an "inf" file, but I have found out that the problem was actually being caused by a duff line in Winnt.sif (which makes sense, seeing as how the error was happening only 3 or 4 seconds into the setup routine). I simply removed the offending entry (which was determined by using the line count number stated in the error message to examine the correct section of the .sif file) and then it worked fine with no further changes.
  5. Oh, I forgot to include the NLite settings that I used for this particular install. I don't know if they're relevant, but I've attached them anyway (just in case it helps). Last_Session.ini
  6. I've just made a NLited install of Windows 2000 with slipstreamed service pack (SP4 + rollup) and some post SP4 hotfixes. No drivers or apps have been added yet. However, when I tried to boot the CD to install it, I get an error message about 5 seconds into the install routine. It happens during the very first phase of setup (Machine Identification Data) and the error message says: "Line 62 of the Inf is Invalid. Setup can not continue. Press any key to exit". It doesn't say which inf file though, so I am at a loss to know where to begin to try to resolve this issue. Can anyone offer any advice or help? Thanks
  7. Thank you for your research and advice ZcWorld. I will follow your suggestion and see what happens. Heh heh, its freezing cold here in England ........ my central heating is on full blast!
  8. I've used nLite to change the default name of the "Documents and Settings" folder to my preferred name ("Users") but I am unsure how to specify the drive that this folder should be placed on. I want to have my "Windows" and "Programs" folder on C:\ and "Users" folder on D:\ (a separate drive, not just separate partition). I know I can just type a full path (inc. drive letter) into the nLite box provided, but drive letter allocation in Windows has no bearing on what the drive might be called outside of Windows. I have 1 WD Raptor for my boot drive and 2 x WD Caviar 500Gb for User Data and Backups respectively, but I don't know how I distinguish between the 2 identical Caviar drives in the setup files to ensure that the "Users" folder gets put onto the correct drive. Any help very much appreciated. Thank you.
