  1. Well.. its only a job for them for so long you know. When they are older they grow up and use thier fame/money to start their own company or go into entertainment.. something like that. If you know the game and follow the teams then spectating the games are actually very exciting.. just like watching any other sport really as in spectating. You just have to know about it. I most def am not comparing it to a sport because it isnt.. but it is the same in entertainment value if you follow it and understand it. Most people would stop playing by like 24 tops. I quit playing professionally about 5 months ago and Im 20.
  2. It is also a really bad opinion. You are getting confused with professional PC gaming. LIke the Cyber Athlete Professional League. Ive been to 5 MLG events and have never seen more than 4 or 5 people in the 2000+ at the events that could be categorized as "nerdy". But you are right where many of the players are between the ages of 15-21. If they are making good money at that age playing a video game then let them. It is pro CONSOLE gaming.. more mainstream. MTV has done multiple specials on it thus far. Including 2 MTV True Life's. People will have a much better understanding of pro console gaming when USA network airs the events starting in Nov. For many it is a career already.. may seem like money gone to waste.. but its just like any other entertainment career/competitive career. PS: if you are saying loser because you dont think they have a job.. no need for them to get another job if they are making 300k + a year and many pro players start their own business off thier success as well. None of them plan on during this their whole life, lol. (unlike pro PC gaming).... Hey.. anyone that is planning on going to the Digital Life Expo this year in New York... MLG is actually holding it's season playoffs at the event so you can see for yourself about it if you attend. I cant wait for the Digital Life Expo this year.
  3. WYSIWYG editor for C# programming language?.. what?.. pshhh.lol. Well I guess I can go about learning C# like how I learned HTML and CSS. I just used Geocitites Pagebuilder until I got so p***ed at it and realized how much it was holding me back so I broke down and actually learned the languages. Thanks though.. I was going to try that out anyways.. but didnt read all the features. Im sure I can code in it as well rather than just do a design view. I use Dreamweaver MX for doing websites but I just code in it.
  4. Microsoft and Gateway just gave me this Gateway M286 tablet laptop and and it totally removes all thinking of me every wanting anything other than.. well this laptop I have . But in the past I wanted a Mac as well just so I would be more knowledgeable of Mac technology as well. I have to use a Mac at work(my Rosetta Stone job) so I get my lil mac endulgence from that.. its enough for me. Plus if I was ever seen using a Mac by any supervisor of mine I think I would get fired, lol. I feel bad enough using Firefox right now. But the new IE coming out has tabs so I will be switching to MS for browsing once again soon enough.
  5. O yeah, .. I definately reccomend Craigslist.. but I gotta throw in there that Microsoft is coming out with a similar site named MS Live Expo . Ill talk about it more when it is fully out.
  6. I use to want to work in the IT industry in some way.. and then things totally changed when I got a lil older and I moved towards business, promotions, even film. I find it funny how Im back into the tech part of things again after all these years because I just got this job as a Marketing representative for Microsoft on my college campus and they offer highly paid internships for marketing people that are also IT oriented. heh. But yeah.. you say you want to work in IT or something similar and things may change. But I def reccomend keep learning because I was like that too big time then I stopped for like 2-3 years and focused on business 100% .. now I dont remember 80% of what I use to know. I feel so dumb compared to how smart I was in IT when I was like 15-16 compared to now at 20
  7. I am interested in learning C#..... does anyone have some advise, resources, reccomended compiler/programs that would be of some help to me and others interested in learning C#??
  8. Are they are other fellow Major League Gaming members here? For those that are not aware what MLG is.. it is the professional competitive gaming league for console gaming. It is HUGE right now. Halo 2 and Super Smash Brothers Melee are played competitively at tournaments all across the US. Seven tournaments a year with a Playoffs and a Finals at the end. HUGE money. Every tournament first place for Halo 2 4v4 team is like 15k.. and payout goes to top 8. The league even signs professional players too... the top Halo 2 team, Final Boss, has a MILLION DOLLAR contract (250k per person). People will see more about it when the tournaments are aired this fall(starting in Nov) on USA network. Check it out. We may see me on there and if so Ill say on here . Ive been to 5 MLG events.. very fun stuff. www.mlgpro.com
  9. Yeah you really kinda have to be patient. And it would be wise kinda to plan things out if you want to work towards a certain career when you get older then work on projects and even volunteer or intern somewhere. You may not get paid (much) but you get experience that will help you out big time when you are older. Trust me on that. Thankfully I worked on a lot of things when I was younger on my own will.. at no charge.. and they look great on my resume right now and hold good stories for curious potential employers. Like for awhile I was really into technology and web design so I did freelance tech jobs and web design for people.. many for free. Then at around 17 I got into promotions and started hosting concerts and promoting other events on my own. So whatever you are interested in Im sure there is someway to get a head start now and build some experience that will help you get a job you want sooner. You dad shouldnt be too mad if you are at least working on something and not sitting at home playing video games or something all day(unless you are a pro gamer and actually get money )
  10. To get a good sales type job you pretty much have to be 18. I found it really hard from 15-17 trying to get a good job that I enjoyed. Sorry to say but pretty much your best luck for a job is to start out with the crap jobs.. restuarants, grocery store, ect. A better job for teens during the summer is being a lifeguard at a pool or something. If you have any connections with people that own a business that could be your way into a better job at a younger age. If you are interested in a sales/tech job and are under 18 I dont know how much luck you will have at major corporate companies like Best Buy and so forth but def check out some privately owned businesses in your local area. I worked at a cell phone retailer for 7 months when I was 16-17 years old. If you cannot find a job you enjoy and want to take advantage of your skills/knowledge then try starting your own company of some sort. I know you cannot really do that legally until you are 18 but you can be a "freelancer" without having to go through all the business formalities and such. Thats what I did with web design. Im 20 now and the only jobs I had before I turned 18 was that one sales job that was with a private local biz and multiple restuarants and a few telemarketing places. I also had a few businesses I started myself over the years. Now I work as a sales representative for Rosetta Stone Language Learning Software and as a MS Student Marketing Partner. yay.
  11. Hello everyone! My name is Rob Carpenter, 20 years old, and attend the University of North Texas. I am the Microsoft Student Marketing Partner for '06-'07 at University of North Texas. I thought it would be a good idea to join a community such as this to help broaden my knowledge of Microsoft's technologies and products in order to help me do my job this year. I hope I can help out along the way as well!
