  1. So MBSA doesn't know that one hotfix replaced another? So it thinks the older one is missing? That might make sense if that is all it were doing. But it's reporting KB #'s missing that are listed by Ryan as being included. Is there a log of the KB #'s that were actually integrated by nLite? Where can I find it?
  2. I wasn't sure if I should post this here or in the Unattended forum, or even on Ryan's forum. (Would it be considered a double post if I do so on Ryan's forum? After all, His is not a sub forum of MSFN.) I ran the MS BSA on my freash install and it said there were over 40 updates missing; the list includes hotfixes from 2003 thru 2006! Interestingly, I also ran a Windows (or is now Microsft) Update for comparison. That showed only 2 items missing. What's going on here? Which report should I rely on? Suggestions? Newbie needs help. Nlite was used to slipstream SP2 on a clean DEll OEM XP Home and also add the latest Ryan's post SP2 UpdatePack v.2.1.0, Ryan's WMP10 addon v. 2.8 as well as Ryan's WGA addon 1.5.540.0. I manually executed the DOTNet 2.0 switchless installer found on Ryan's Site. Before I discovered MSFN and about unattended slipstreamed installs, I always used the BSA to keep my PC updated instead of Windows Update. Since Ryan's update pack is dated July 14th, I expected to see some items missing, but not items from past years.
  3. Thank you, nuhi. Not just for the reply, but also for such a great application. Ever since I discovered MSFN recently, which of course led me to nLite, I'm been trying to learn alot. I know enough to 'search' and read, read, and read some more, before I post. But sometimes it's difficult to wade through everything and all I wanted, in this case, was the answer to a very simple, basic question (to which I could not find an answer).
  4. Newbie question: Do the selections I make in the 'Options' section of nLite effect the Default User Profile?
  5. I too had a problem with missing files after first using Ryan's integrator before nlite. I had started with a 'golden' (as a newbie I hope I'm using that phrase correctly) Dell OEM XP Home CD and kept thinking my problems were due to using a Dell CD. I used the Integrator to splipsteam SP2, add the latest Ryan hotfix update pack as well as WMP10 and WGP. I decided to try using only nLite to do the same, and voila, no mising files (or at least, not the same ones that were missing originally). Hence, I determined the Integrator was the culprit; though I never investigated exactly what was missing (i.e. the cab file mentioned in the previous posts). Now I have a new problem (I was going to start a new thread about that), but I'll mention it here, for now, at least. When I used the MS Base Security Analyser on the last nLite ISO, testing in VMware Workstation, it told me I was missing 37 hotfixes!
  6. Well, I started from scratch, only using nlite, testing the ISO image using VMWare, after each step. That is to say after slipstreaming SP2 only, then adding update packs; then adding addons, then removing components (double-checking not to remove items I was unsure about), etc. Each step of the way I had no problems. I finally got the Image to work after all 'tweaks'. In the end, my Dell OEM CD was usuable. So I gues the problem was in one of the settings (or conflict between two) that I previously used in nLite. Takeshi, Your assumption is incorrect. I am not trying to install a DELL OEM in non-DELL system. I am looking to reformat my PC with a fresh install, on a 4.5 year old Dimension 8200. [crying] It's so old its got an Intel 850 chipset mobo and a Williamete P4 @ 1.8 gHz[/crying]. Unless your statement refers to the Virtual PC environment
  7. Anyone? This may be a ridiculus noob question, but I need your experience and insight here.
  8. I'm a newbie still trying to create my 1st unattended disk. Base is a DELL OEM XP Home v.0 CD. Basically I used nLite to do everything except add Drivers. I added no other applications. (Slipstream SP2, Ryan's latest hotfix updatepack as well as a couple of Addons (WMP10 & WPA). No Drivers added. Removed components, Unattended Set-Up, options, Patches, tweaks, created ISO. Testing installation using VMWare Workstation 5.5.1, everything was going well untill the boot screen appeared saying "Loading your personal settings", and stayed that way for 30 minutes until I exited the VM. I didn't think that stage should take so long (30 minutes or longer), even though I made quite a number of 'customizations' in nLite. Am I wrong about this? Is this wait normal? Does anyone have any thoughts as to what may be causing this 'hang-up'? I tried doing a search but couldn't find anything similar. Help, please!
  9. nmilstein, It sounds like your experiencing the same issue I had, I didn't burn the ISI image correctly. The website Takeshi directed me to also has Instructions for buring ISO image using Nero 5.x or 6.x. I suggsest you burn it again following those instructions exactly. Worked for me (using the instx for Roxio). Note: I did have to re-create the ISO image (using nLite). No biggie. My CD with new image booted correctly. Unfortunately, I got some error messages during the install, but that a different thread altogether.
  10. Thanks, Takeshi, you've answered my original question "what have I done wrong" directly.
  11. Is that the difference between using RyanVM_Integrator vs. nLite? (Noob question.) Which method is better? I was using the Integrator to slipstream SP2 and the hot fixes as well as the WMP10 addon. And then nlLite to reduce and create ISO. Would it better to use nLite to do it all?
  12. To what "main menu" are you referring? I am using EZCD Creator Platinum v.5.3.5.10t. I have to choose between using Direct CD (which will format the CD & loose some recordable space), so as to drag & drop using Explorer, or making a Data CD Project. I was using the latter.... These are the steps I took: File/New CD Project/Bootable CD Bootable CD Type: choose "No Emulation" Load Segment: "0x7c0 Sector Count: "4" Browse to the nLite ISO Image Record Did I do it wrong? My version of Roxio (see above) doesn't have an Image Burning Wizard.
  13. I burnt a CD-R of the nLite ISO image and the computer hangs during post after message: "Initializing Intel Boot Agent version 2.6 (build 004)" I'm completely new at this and tried to search for the answer to my problem but haven't been successful. I am complete noob at making an unattended slipstreamed CD and really need your help. I'm using a Dell OEM XP_Home (original XP version) CD as the origin of the slipstream. Steps I took: Using RyanVM_Integrator: slipstreamed SP2 integrated RyanUpdatePack2.1.0 integrated RyanAddonsWMP10 Using NLite removed components unattended setup- made selections options - made selections patches - made selections tweaks - made selections create ISO image Using Roxio CD Creator 5.3 (or whatever was the last v.5 patched version) burned nLite ISO image, using recommended settings for making a bootable CD from The Elder Geek but didn't follow the rest of the directions. First off, let me ask a really stupid question: I only had to burn the ISO image, right? I didn't need to add all of the files (i.e. $OEM$, I386. etc.) to my CD project, right? What have I done wrong? By the way, I can't test my image in virtual environment because I've lost my IP Address and can't renew it (some TCP/IP Protocol and or winsock corruption) plus other issues requires me to refformatt and reinstall the OS; I've lost all networking features which apparantly VMWare Workstation requires, and MS Virtual PC wont work with XP_Home.
