  1. Why all the fuss?

Just buy it online.......you have the internet dont you?

So who online ships to AUS? Egghead? Nah. Tiger direct? Nah. Amazon? Yes, but not MS OS's... Games, books, I've got those from Amazon, but got the big 'sorry, we don't ship this item there' last night.

  2. WoW! thats horrible. Its got nothing to do with a free trade agreement, what it has to do with is the Australian market place has increased the price. Its a $180 increase over the U.S. price. I checked, the import cost was around $10.00 (USD) per unit (each boxed copy), the rest of what you seeing is an increase that the Australian market place has tacked on. So its not Vista Ultimate screwing you, its the Australian market screwing you. quote]

Microsoft AUS has set an RRP of 751 AUD for vista ultimate retail. I hardly see how that's the 'Australian Marketplace'...

  3. 750 AUD (580 USD) for Ultimate retail... Why do Aussies have to pay a 200 USD premium? I guess that a 'free trade' agreement is not quite the same as a 'fair trade' agreement, eh.

Fortunately my RC2 license will not expire until after I get back from holidays... In Hawaii.

  4. I have a pair of 6800 GPUs with 256 MB ram each. MB is a DFI lanparty UT nf4 sli DR expert, with an amd 3700..... In XP, I am configured for SLI. I get ~ 8700 in 3dmark05. In Vista RC2 I get ~4700 in 3dmark05.

If I re-install my Vista Nvidia drivers, it disables one video card, claiming that it is incompatible with the VGA drivers.

  5. same issue, drivers are recogonized and i am getting a one with a Evga 7950gtx :) ah sad sad day

Well, I'm at least getting a 5.9 from ny piddly 6800 ultras ;-) but windows stills thinks my two ultras are gt's :-(

I put in an error report to Nvidia, but don't really expect to get a response, based on previous experience.

But at least x64 bit loaded with no issues, and so far is quite stable. Not one bsod so far... If it stays this way I'll be rapt!

  6. True DX8 class hardware (ATI R200, NV20, Matrox G300) doesn't support aero glass features.

yes, because aero glass uses PixelShaders 2.0 with was intruduced with dx9

    Thank you. That's useful information.

So most any graphics card that has pixelshader 2.0 will work for Aero. Explains some laptop issues I've seen.

  7. DirectX 10 comes with Vista, and Vista only. But... that's for games basically.

The Aero interface is actually DirectX 9 based. DirectX 10 won't be a requirement for Vista Premium untill 2008

Useful information, but can you provide a link? And the original post was about whether someone had tried vista on a dx 8 GPU...

  8. Are you remapping your ram? I have found that vista does not like these settings turned on. You may want to take a look in your bios.

Remapping? Explain this. If you mean the memory at the 1 MB boundary, (which was needed for early versions of OS/2 and NT) then no. Otherwise, I have no clue.

  9. Aero is a DX10-based GUI. I wonder why he/she asked about Aero under DX8....

Hmm... Works pretty good in DX 9, just wondered if anyone had tried with lower DX versions.

And he/she asked because that's what they have.

  10. well the first post looks like what i was having when i first tried to instal vista 64, did read on another site that you need to format the drive through xp BEFORE you attempt to instal Vista on that drive.

It also siad it should be instaled on a primary partition.

solved my instalation problems following those instructions.

One of my install attempts was a fresh install of XP SP2, and an upgrade install was not an option.

I have also just formatted the drive under XP, then installed the drive as the ONLY drive, and installed to that. No go.

    I'm open to further suggestions.

  11. I installed 32 RC1 no probs at all, smooth as silk.

    64 however, totally different story.

Booted from disk ok, let me choose HDD, went through beginning, 1st reboot, BANG. Nothing. Black screen, rebooted manually started ok, went to black screen again and again.

Couldnt install at all. Ended up giving up and now just use XP and 32 RC1 Vista.

Shame cos i really wanted to try the 64 as am gettig a new CPU this week :(

Did you ever get the x64 version to work? I didn't...

But I did post all my system specs for this issue from my rc1-x32 bit version, complete with the various system hangs, bsods, etc. If enough people do this, maybe we'll get a resolution.

  12. bit disappointing this release really....

Installs no faster, still needs a manual reboot (in my case) to finalize the install...

    I went from a 5.1 perf rating to a 4.1...

    Still no SLI.

Methinks I wasted 4.5 hours on this, for what?

M$ - can you hear us? We'd like to help, down here at the bottom of the food chain....

Hmm... Good idea, but I can't link to the links provided.

So, since you sem to be able to, is there any info on the starforce protection used on some of Ubisoft's games?

  14. Quite some time ago I installed RC-1. I got the usual desktop icons, file xfer beta client and compatability wizard...

Then I installed the Nvidia beta client...

All of my shortcuts disappeared. OK, no big deal... I went to MS, and got the beta client, which also gave me the xfer manager shortcut... Now marked (2).

But I can't find the compatability wizard anywhere!

any clues? I'd like to have it back....

    Edit...

Dohh... Didn't have search set up correctly...

all .lnk files are in the user that created them... (c:/users/whoever/desktop)

  15. Just wanted to get a rough look at how many people actually submit bug reports to MS, i don't care if nothing happend becuase of the report or if you never heard anything back on it. just wanted to see overall how many people actually take the time to submit Bug reports to MS

i know i have sent in about 14 reports, maybe a few more but that is the best to my knowledge

    how about you guys?

I'm a big-time whinger.... I'll whinge (via bug report) over anything like poorly placed menu items to (my biggest whinge) improper graphics adapter recognition / plus no sli support. I've also tried to whinge on the latter to Nvidia, but that's like trying to p**s up a rope.

Not sure it helps, but it makes ME feel better.

  16. My MB has two interfaces, and happily its never been an issue. (yes, they both work.) As to command line stuff, I'm sure you've already tried ipconfig...?

Did you even look at the image I posted at the bottom of my message? It clearly shows me using ipconfig.

Also, when you say "they both work" what do you mean? Have you got them both plugged into a network and doing something? Because merely having two hasn't given me any issues. I've only had issues with trying to use both of them. Using just one is simple.

Sorry, I tend to not look at links. Call me paranoid, but I'm not behind a proper FW at home... So the question was asked, and answered. 'Nuff said in that regard.

And yes, I use a DFI MB here at home, have a Nvidia interface that goes to the outside world and a Yukon interface that goes to my NAS box. I backup and restore to / from my NAS. Useful when doing re-installs, or switching versions, etc. Also useful when I download a new version of something from the 'net that I want to use later.

  17. I thought of that too, or maybe it means 'activations' in the sense of each activation being one computer, and each subsequest activation for that computer being not counted.

I also tend to think that's the answer, as my key has only been used on about seven different machines at work and here at home.

  18. Has anyone here managed to get dual NIC's going with windows vista? So far all I've managed to produce with two NIC's is a lot of really confusing and random errors with vista. Below is an image showing my issues.

As you can see in the top window vista clearly see's that I have two NIC's and recognizes them both. It will even happily let me know if one of them is unplugged or not. But if you look at the other two windows you'll notice windows refuses to recognize the second NIC. It only shows the Telus NIC and things associated with it.

This leads me to believe the other NIC is deactivated but it's not, as you can see in the top window it's completely active. At one point I thought it was messing things up due to conflicts with two fake IPv6 adatpers so I disabled ipv6 on the second NIC and that didn't seem to help.

What's really getting to me is no matter what command I use I can't find the second NIC from the command line.

Anyways thanks for reading. Let me know if any of you have had more luck tryign to make two NIC's work.
