Another BSOD problem (0x000000CE)

Featured Replies

Dear Microsoft Softward Forum Network:

Thanks for welcoming me to your network.

Grateful for any assistance you can provide with the following:

Attempts to use Internet Explorer, Windows Update or to report system errors to Microsoft all generate the BSOD (0x000000CE, driver unloaded without cancelling pending operations) with the file Fhd7.sys identified as the likely source of the problem. As far as I can tell, there is no file by this name on my system. Any ideas?

I tried using two registry repair programs, which both also generated the BSOD (0x0000008E, when attempting scan of file/path references with RegCure and 0x00000000 Page fault in nonpaged area when attempting deep scan with Registry Mechanic).

I was having a lot of trouble with issues related to lsass.exe, svchost.exe, etc. (probably due to viruses) which are slowly being overcome.

I would really like to resolve this problem without doing a full re-install of Windows XP, although I have tried repair twice.

With many thanks,

User8000

Well, I'm afraid full reinstall would be the best solution and I would certainly recommend it.

I'd suggest configuring your machine for a complete dump, so the next time it occurs we can take a look if you upload it or provide a place for us to download the .dmp file.
