eXPerience-XP Posted October 21, 2003 Posted October 21, 2003 Everyone post your XP Setup tips/tricks here.... eg: speeding up install... different methood of installing XP etc.
gamehead200 Posted October 21, 2003 Posted October 21, 2003 Well, if you forgot your XP password and don't have a password reset disk made with Windows XP, you can download a little utility called the Offline NT Password and Registry Editor. It runs off a floppy, and is basically a Linux kernel that edits your SAM security file. Blanking the password with this utility is recommended and works better. Your chances of corrupting your SAM file when resetting it to a different password are HIGH, so blank it instead! Here is the link, which I found on TechTV's site and have recommended to my system administrators at school:http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/You can also use this from a CD! RayOK Posted October 21, 2003 Posted October 21, 2003 Well.. When I install TweakUI 2.10 I don't create a shortcut for it in the start menu by copying a shortcut to it. Instead I merge the registry info below and it adds TweakUI to the Control Panel, where I think it should be.Reg File------------------Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{D14ED2E1-C75B-443c-BD7C-FC03B2F08C17}]@="Tweak UI""InfoTip"="Starts the Tweak UI program which customizes advanced options in Windows"[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{D14ED2E1-C75B-443c-BD7C-FC03B2F08C17}\DefaultIcon]@="%SystemRoot%\\\\System32\\\\tweakui.exe,0"[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{D14ED2E1-C75B-443c-BD7C-FC03B2F08C17}\Shell][HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{D14ED2E1-C75B-443c-BD7C-FC03B2F08C17}\Shell\Open][HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{D14ED2E1-C75B-443c-BD7C-FC03B2F08C17}\Shell\Open\command]@="tweakui.exe"[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{D14ED2E1-C75B-443c-BD7C-FC03B2F08C17}\ShellFolder]"Attributes"=dword:00000030[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ControlPanel\NameSpace\{D14ED2E1-C75B-443c-BD7C-FC03B2F08C17}]@="Add Tweak UI to Control Panel"End of File-----------------------------
