Hi,

I am new to the forum and I am looking for a way to add IP printer ports to Windows XP desktops using VBS scripting. The method I would like to use is to prompt the user for the name of the printer and have it install the printer port and printer automatically. The printers in our network have static IP addresses and are registered in DNS. I have seen scripts that are hard coded for particular printer names or addresses, but I would like this to be a self service utility for the end users. I have some very basic VBS scripting knowledge, and any help is greatly appreciated. One other note is we have preloaded the driver files for the printers in our network on the users pc's. Thanks in advance for any tips or tricks that would help me accomplish this task.

Are you using PCL or PS drivers?

How do you want to present the list to the end user?

Do your users have rights to add printers?
