luke.mccormick Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 I have an x64 Server 2003 DC, DHCP, and WDS box. I have an x64 laptop, I added the x64 winpe image for vista business to the wds server but it doesn't show up on the boot image list when i PXE, the x86 version of business does however. How do I get the option to deploy the x64 version?
cluberti Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 How do you have your DHCP option configured for PXE?- Option 66 should point to your WDS server's FQDN:risserver.yourdomain.tld- Option 67 should point to the x86 pxeboot.com file:\Boot\x86\pxeboot.comBy configuring this way, when an x64 machine connects to the x86 pxeboot.com file, it will detect the architecture and redirect to the x64 pxeboot.com file automatically. When this happens, x64 machines will see x64 boot options, but x86 machines will not. It sounds like you have your option 67 pointing elsewhere, or not defined at all.
luke.mccormick Posted April 22, 2007 Author Posted April 22, 2007 didnt work...i went into the DHCP server and added the two options. the x64 OS's show up in ris..like 2003 and xp x64, but the vista boot images aren't showing up in the initial boot menu.
cluberti Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 You've added both an x64 boot and install image, or just a boot image? I can't say I've run into this before, but there's a first time for everything .
luke.mccormick Posted April 24, 2007 Author Posted April 24, 2007 (not doubting you but..) does it matter? I will check, but I figured if the boot image is there the boot image will be available. Thanks again for the reply.
cluberti Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 I'm not sure it does - but I would make sure you have an install image to go with your boot image. BTW, is this the default boot and install.wim from the Vista DVD, or are either customized?
luke.mccormick Posted April 25, 2007 Author Posted April 25, 2007 both are non-modified boot and install wims from the original vista x64 business edition. Didn't get a chance to check this last night will do it tonight.
luke.mccormick Posted April 25, 2007 Author Posted April 25, 2007 and yes both the x64 boot image AND the x64 install image are added on the wds server. both are from the same business disc as well.

luke.mccormick Posted April 26, 2007 Author Posted April 26, 2007 I'm going to guess that's probably it, I will give it a try when I get home tonight. Thanks for your time.
