ie vs sp2

Featured Replies

I re-installed my PC because I was having problems with Programs causing errors and a system restore would not complete succesfully. My original XP is proffessional 2002( no SPs). After installing the PC, I can connect to internet without problems but after applying service pack 2 the IE6 wont open the web pages anymore. I tryed everything suggested in the Microsoft support site to no avail. Then I uninstall SP2 and IE6 works perfectly. I'm baffled since I'm a PC technician and this is the 1st time I see this type of behavior.

The problem started with "IE has encountered an error and needs to shut down" error. That is when I decided to reinstall

Has anyone seen this before?

When you say IE won't connect, what are the exact symptoms? Do you just get a blank page, do you get any specific errors or HTML messages (make sure you disable friendly HTTP errors in advanced options for IE)? It almost sounds like something that's installed causing this.

The page that opens, says cannot open page in top. It is followed by instructions on what may be causing it, and at the bottom it says "DNS Error" cannot find server
