EDIT: SOLVED. See PS

I'm trying to install the software for an (old) wireless access point in Win2ksp4.

Every time I do, the install aborts with a mesage:

"1608: Unable to Create InstallDriver Instance"

This led me to this page:InstallShield KB

However, after following all the advice and reinstalls, I get no further.

I checked COM permissions, MS networking (WTF?) and every other thing.

BUT, I can install the software on both Win98 and WinXP machines without a glitch. But I need it on my Win2k machine.

Is there a way to manually install? I used "InControl5" when installing it in Win98, it listed hundreds of registry changes, so just copying files won't work.

The complete installation files are here

PS: I forgot the Cardinal Rule: If it first it don't work, reboot.

I think it was adding "Microsoft Networking" to my network card protocols that did the trick; insane as it seems. Though immediately trying the install failed, after a reboot it did work.

I leave this here just in case anyone else is searching for solutions.
