HumanoidTyphoon Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 (edited) is my windows 98 an FE or SE? if it is an FE why does it say windows 98 Second Edition, if it is an SE shouldn't the version number be 4.10.2222 im sooooo confused.....pls help Edited March 15, 2007 by HumanoidTyphoon
Ponch Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 I'd trust the version number. But you should know where your OS comes from and what it's been trough. (obviously not out of the box).
ShadeTreeLee Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 You are 98se with the wrong data in the registry under this key:[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion]"VersionNumber"="4.10.2222"The question remains 'how did your registry get the wrong data in it'?I have no answer for that one, but it's good question just the same.
HumanoidTyphoon Posted March 16, 2007 Author Posted March 16, 2007 so it's an SE....How can I put the right data in the registry?
ShadeTreeLee Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 Type regedit into the Run Box and navigate to that key, then in the right panel right click the offending data and choose modify. Change the data to 4.10.2222 and OK your way out. Or spend some time at http://www.winguides.com/registry/ to learn how to make the changed data into a .reg file to then right click the .reg file and merge it.Sorry about the delay - I'm not an everyday user.
