Odd Problem

i've just noticed an odd problem with my dads Dell Dimension XPS Gen 4. the dvd drive will read cds but wont read any dvd (it just tells me "please insert a disc into drive e:"), whether its a mass produced one (ex. the dell dvd) or a burnt one. the OS is an Nlited version of MCE that i made for him so he could install everything easily while im away at college. i dont believe that i removed the dvd drivers from the install cd. anyone have a solution? thanks
