Backstepping from VISTA

I bought a Gateway nx860s Laptop with Vista on it. Id like to install Windows XP instead of Vista (I have the Vista disk when they start coming out with sp's for it). However, XP says it cannot find a hard drive. Can I get some help to setup my Laptop to run XP?
