Mediacenter codec vs mediaplayer codec

Featured Replies

I have just taken the plunge and upgraded my mediacenter to Vista (32bit edition) from XPMC2005.

When I play an avi file (xvid encoded) and divx files through media player it works perfectly but there are some strange distortions when played through the mediacenter. I have tried a number of different codec packs and still get the same issue.

Are the codecs used in mediaplayer the same as the ones in mediacenter (both are 32bit since I am running Vista Home Premium 32bit version)

Any ideas?

thanks

The codecs being used by all 32bit players are the same.

Have you tried the Vista Codec Package? If you're going to give it a go, please remove any codec related installations 1st, including programs like PowerDVD, Nero, Quicktime and RealPlayer.

shark

you can try to install xvid or divx codec to see if the file is decoded properly in media center
