Can I network Vista with XP?

Recommended Posts

I just bought a new computer and it comes with Windows Vista Home Premium. :thumbup

My other computer runs Windows XP Home OS.

I want to link these 2 computers together (I suppose "network" them) so that I can readily move some of the files that are on my older system (XP) over to my new system that is running Vista.

Can this be done?

If so, can someone tell me the best way to do this or point me in the right direction to learn how?

Thanks,

Charles

I'm sorry, this posting will be fine.

I'm just trying to get an answer.

I have asked this question on many forums and, for whatever reasons, I have not had any helpful answers.

I do realize how networking 2 computers is usually accomplished. However, there seems to be some compatibility issues when it comes to networking a computer running XP Home edition (32 bit) with a computer running the new Vista Home Premium edition (32 bit).

I just thought that there might be someone here that is in the know on this and be willing to share that knowledge.

Perhaps the right person has just not read this yet.

So, if I may, I'd like to keep this posting just in case that someone should happen by that can help.

Thanks,

Charles

I network (using wireless) Vista x64 on my Desktop computer

with my daughters laptop (also wireless) running XP SP2 seamlessly.

Nothing out of the ordinary to report.

Setup was simple, straight forward, and everything worked from the get go.
