Re-volt in vista

anyone know how to get the game re-vole to work in vista ?

it started to load and gets almost to the end and then stops if you go into task manger and click the re-volt icon it saids

can't flip display buffers

it stops on C:\Program Files\Acclaim Entertainment\Re-Volt\cars\wincar3/hull.hul

Hey --- what graphics card you got and which drivers? Worked for me by setting compatibility to xp and running with administrative rights on an ATI x800xl with the 7.1 catalyst drivers.

Hi, i have the same problem.

My Graphic Card is a ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 (64MB) with Catalyst 7.1 drivers too.

Running Re-Volt with administrative rights did not help.

What do you mean by 'setting compatibility to xp'?

I'm also getting the "Can't flip display buffers" error. Using XP compatibility mode and run as admin doesn't help.

Using Vista 32bit with a GeForce 7800GS with latest drivers.

Good News Re-Volt Fans!

It's working for me now

My Tutorial:

Use Win 98 compatibility mode and run as admin.

When it stops loading the game, press space button.

Now the menu loads and you can change the settings you want.

Start a Game.

It stops loading again. Go into the task manager. Once the task manager is open, you will see the "can't flip display buffers" message.

Click ok.

Go back to the Game and it should work.

Ok, it's a bit complicated.. but better than nothing

Hmm... It kinda works.

Though I had to do the "go to task manager" to get past the first loading screen.

But when I start a game and get past the second "Can't flip display buffers" I get a second error I cant pass, "Can't restore front buffer".

I think i've found a fix for this... lol... don't laugh... are you trying to use gamepads? joysticks? etc? Try playing the game using a keyboard.

I got that "Can't restore front buffer" error, it was only when i played with keyboard that the bug simply disappeared!

Let me know if it works

Been using a keyboard all the time, though it is a USB one. Mabye I should try a PS2 keyboard.

Also one thing I want to share, the editor doesn't work in Vista cuz it's missing a dll file. But you can simply download the d3drm.dll from this link and put it in your c:/windows/system32/ folder.

Editor works perfect for me.

No, i still get the same error when i use my keyboard (notebook).

I found this on another site and figured it would be helpful to anyone still trying to get Revolt to run in Vista.

First of all make sure the installation path for the game has NO spaces in it, so if it's anywhere in Program Files, that's no good. I put mine in C:\Revolt.

Then right click on the shortcut for the game, go to Properties and then the Shortcut tab on top.

Then add a space then -sli at the end of the Target so it looks like this:

"C:\Revolt\revolt.exe -sli"

I tried it without any compatibility mode and worked fine for me so try that, if not then experiment with the Windows XP or Windows 98 compatibility modes.

Worked for me, hopefully works for everyone else too. Enjoy!

3- Create a shortcut to the revolt executable.

4- Insert "-sli" on the "destination" line.

Well, let's dig this thread up after almost a year....

My little boy found ReVolt in the game room of a sports complex recently, and LOVED it (it helps that I race RC cars as a hobby too!). Anyway, I installed this patch, and it worked great, but I lost the opening music. Any ideas on how to get it back?

If you have the Re-Volt CD, you can download patch 0916 instead of patch 1207. This will retain the music in the game. You can get it here
