when i use windows explorer open media files, such as

avi, mpg, etc., i usually have this kind of problem pops

up(see image).

When i click on "OK" button, the whole

windows envirnment is disappeared for 5-10 seconds,

(the whole screen will be the background color). after

windows come back, the windows explorer automatically

closes.

any clues how to fix?

Looks like a bad RAM module. Run memtest86 and loop it 10 times and see if any errors are reported. You can burn the memtest86 ISO to CD and it will automatically boot from it.

Anyways, I'd guess it's defective RAM.

It may just be time for a re-install though. Im guessing if its trying to read the section it already wrote to it.

this problems be4, i reinstalled the

windows system already. without

installing lots of softwares on my pc,

it doesn't have this kind of problem.

for some avi media files, i need to

install the codec to decode those ****

media files. does the codec cause

this kind of problem?

It depends on the codec, I guess.

Even if I've never experienced that kind of error while manipulating Divx (or any other mpeg4) files, I suggest you to install the latest codec available.

I'd even suggest you to install ffdshow, wich is a filter that decodes all Divx and Xvid content. It's free and light. You can get it here.
