wildbill411 Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 (edited) Hello,I am recieving this error in Outlook Express 6:Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'Wildbill', Server: 'pop.earthlink.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F*I have been using OE w/ this setup for years.*I am using Windows XP Pro SP2.*I have my Outlook Express set to Send &Recieve every minute.*I do not get the error on every transmission. *If I do get the error, usually by the next S&R I do not get it.*I have 2 accounts set up in Outlook Express****It mostly happens to the DEFAULT ACCOUNT. whether it be the first or second to get checked during S&R. I have tried either account as default and it is the account which usually gets the error!I have been using this article as a guide to resolving the issue:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/813514It lists these as possible causes:• Incorrect account settings • Misconfiguration of personal firewall software • Antivirus software • A bad modem • Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) size • Outlook Express has been removed from the computer or the installation is damaged • Your user profile in Outlook is damaged • An e-mail item on your POP3 server is damaged I have tried:+Reentering all account settings+disabling my antivirus+called hughes net to make sure my modem was ok+called Earthlink (I use earthlink accounts)+checked my MTU setting and tried other settings+cleared all email from server and deleted any email since errors started+tried different timeout settingJust recently I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Outlook Express.I followed this and backed everything up:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/270670Then I followed this to remove and then reinstall (after rebooting):http://support.microsoft.com/kb/263837/After reinstalling and opening Outlook Express, nothing had changed. I did not need to use the "mail backup" I had created. So I do not know whether or not This step had been fully executed correctly. Did I miss something in un-reinstalling OE? Would this matter? Thanks abunch! Edited February 10, 2007 by wildbill411
