Hibernation

Hi all. im ahving a very strange problem. i want to enable hibernation support in Windows, so that my PC's battery backup can hibernate my pc in the event of a power outage.

unfortunately, when i follow control panel -> power options -> hibernate tab, and then check the "enable hibernation" checkbox, and then try to apply it, i get a message titled "power policy manage unable to reserve hibernate file", telling me that "a device attached to the system is not functioning."

i am forced to click "OK", and the box unchecks itself.

i tried searching the forums, but the only thing i found regarded nLite. somoone posted a similar situation. well. they pretty much sjut said that it didnt work. and another user posted a solution. i was wondering what they meant, or if it was even relevant for me, as i dont use nLite.

1. try removing this from winnt.sif, if it's there

    Hibernation = No

Put it to yes or remove the line.

does anyone know what i can do? thanks in advance for any help.

Possible solutions:

0. Be sure you have enough space on you hard drive for the file to be created, hiberfil.sys size=memory size.

1. Boot to safe mode, delete c:\hiberfil.sys, reboot and try enabling hibernation. (Be sure to set windows to show all files.)

2. Uninstall Daemon tools and Alchohol burner, reboot and try again. If successful the reinstall removed software.

It seems you've double-posted, but that's OK. This is almost always caused by Alcohol 120, although Daemon tools can do it too.

I have seen improperly installed/missing drivers cause this on some systems. It usually is video drivers, if you can believe that
