How slipstreaming works

How does hotfix/driver slipstreaming work? Is there any article that explains it? If I wanted to this on my own or make yet another program (as if nlite/xpcreate/hfslip/rvm weren't good enough. I just like making my own programs/scripts/batches so I could understand what goes on.)

I meant the complete integration, that all HFs are preinstalled, not installed during setup.
