Hi!

Hope somebody here can help with this problem i'm having...

just installed Vista on my Vaio and I want to change the icons for the removable drives (MemoryStick, CompactFlash & SmartMedia). I've managed to change the drive names using regedit but it doesn't work when i try to set the default icon!

Any ideas??

Nobody knows how to do this in the registry? This is what i've tried so far...

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\I]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\I\DefaultIcon]
@="C:\\Icons\\MS.ico"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\I\DefaultLabel]
@="MemoryStick"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\J]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\J\DefaultIcon]
@="C:\\Icons\\SM.ico"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\J\DefaultLabel]
@="SmartMedia"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\K]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\K\DefaultIcon]
@="C:\\Icons\\CF.ico"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\K\DefaultLabel]
@="CompactFlash"

Changed it a little bit from the WinXP reg entries but it must be a simple task but i just can't work it out

Any help would be great :thumbup

Is your problem not having a proper icon for the removable drive? I use a VAIO too and hate it how in XP my Memory Stick drive doesn't have a proper icon :-(

Anyhow, I was looking at the VAIO Vista drivers today and noticed among them was a file called "Memory Stick Drive icon registry patch" and same for the other memory card reader. You can get it from http://www.vaio-link.com/ :-D

Thanks for your reply, I've got the icon files I just can't replace the standard drive icon with them. They are in .ico files and I've tried changing them to .dll but that didn't work  I tried the link you posted but that had no effect at all, but my VAIO is an old model (PCV-RZ422P) that i've upgraded over the last couple of years.
