Let's say you are a gamer, and want the tip top performance on your wireless network so that you can both move large files and have a good ping for your internet connection.

Would you opt for any of the options above (other than "None of Above" off course..)?

mac filtering will probably least impact your throughput as opposed to any other versions of wireless security

wireless security without encryption is terrible

macs can be spoofed so easily

hidden SSID's can be found with the right tools

even WEP 256 bit can be cracked with the right tools.

WPA-PSK and a combination of all of the above would be the best or WPA2 if your access point can support it.

They really need to create wireless connections that need certificates, that are issued by the access point but only after you have given authority, then wireless would rule!

Well, you can almost do that with 802.1x if you have a RADIUS server (and a 2K3 domain makes it even easier). Requiring both authentication and a shared (private) certificate before gaining any network access, plus the above, makes wireless access points fairly secure. Hard to hack a network when all you can send are EAPOL packets without a domain username/password, a valid MAC address, and a valid certificate. Not impossible, but highly unlikely .

cool, thanks for that cluberti. seems a little overkill for a home wireless system but definatly for business it sounds very secure.
