stop 0x7e while install AC97 driver

hi guys!

i already searched the forum but found nothing usefull for my following problem...

i just installed a fresh XP Pro(prepatched with sp1) with SP2 and all updates the updater gives me.

now if i install the driver for the AC97 onboard sound i get a BSOD with following stop:

STOP 0x7E (0xC05, 0xB858F46D, 0xF8981A54, 0xF8981750)

in portcls.sys B858F46D base at B858F000

i allready installed XP a second time. this time without sp2 --> same BSOD

sp2 and no updates--> BSOD

nvidia graphic and intel chipsetdriver installed

North Bridge	        Intel Springdale i865PE
South Bridge Intel 82801EB ICH5
Audio-Controllertyp Intel 82801EB(M) ICH5

need any more info?

p.s. please excuse my spelling. didn't use my english quite a while...

Are you installing the driver off the cd that came with the motherboard? Try downloading the newest driver off the website of the manufacturer and see if it happens again. If you give me the make and model of the motherboard, I'll point you to the driver download page. Also, you may want to download the latest chipset driver from here: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/scripts-df...ms〈=eng and the latest graphics driver (although unrelated to your problem) from here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_93.71.html.
