usb flash drive woes

My problem is that no usb flash drives show up in my computer with any way to utilize them. They show up in device manager and are in the task bar for safely remove hardware. Its very strange because my external usb harddisk works fine as does the web cam. But no flash drives or digital cameras of any sort are there.When I plug in a 1 gig(doesn't mater size or brand) it get recognized but nothing in my comp. I have also tried to manually assign drive letters with no luck. I've searched and have not really found anything that pertains to this problem. Thanks.

have u got any card readers insatlled? if so disable them and try again.
